GdS: ‘Full speed ahead’ – Milan’s plan after completion of Morata deal

By Ben Dixon -

Some have questioned AC Milan’s start to the 2024 summer mercato, but there is nothing to worry about, given the European Championship was taking place. However, the Rossoneri are set to move at pace in the window now the tournament has finished.

Whilst the mercato has officially been open for two weeks, the true mercato has not yet been seen due to the European Championship and Copa America, but with both tournaments completed, the window is expected to get lively quickly, and Milan will play their part in this.

Within hours of the Euro 2024 final, it seemed like a deal for Alvaro Morata was going to be wrapped up shortly, and now, the deal is imminent, with the details of the deal finalised. There is not a plan to stop there, though.

Instead, the Diavolo are planning to attack the mercato, going ‘full speed ahead’ according to this morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below).

The first port of call will be in Austria, and the negotiations with RB Salzburg will be a priority after Morata becomes an officially done deal. A deal with the player has already been agreed, but now, Milan must negotiate with the Austrian club and close a gap.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are ‘circling’ and with Luka Jovic selling the project, there is no choice to be made by the player, but a deal must be concocted with Salzburg soon.

Following the completion of this task, they will then, ideally, finalise the move for Youssouf Fofana, who is also returning from the European Championship, and they could revisit London to re-open talks for Emerson Royal.

  1. since we saved north of 20-25M€ by going to Morata instead of Zirkzee we should use that extra money to get Fofana and Pavlovic’s deals done as quickly as possible.

    1. Agreed. The 5 mil gap in both negotiations should be easy to cover now when 32 mil was saved on Zirkzee (40+5 commission to Kia).

They even have money over to close the gap om Emerson if needed. I would howerver sell Bennacer ASAP and put 60 mil on Dani Olmo. But that is just me 😛

Reports were Milan had 100 mil to use this Mercato-

      Morata 13 mil
      Fofana 25 mil
      Pavlovic 20 mil
      Fullkrug 25 mil

Thats 17 mil left. So it mean they need to sell for 43 mil total to afford Olmo. Bennacer to Saudi league would fix that…

Then dump a number of players to free up wages for the arrivals (Kjaer, Caldara, Mirante, Giroud are already gone). Florenzi, Bennacer (if they sell him), Origi and Ballo-Toure are the first that comes to mind.

If Olmo is added to that list of arrivals we would have a kickass team for next season.

      1. You are ignoring player’s will.
Olmo is almost a world class and has a huge Market.

I doubt he will choose our miserable project

      2. Reports ≠ actual budget we have.

And olmo isn’t going anywhere for 40M. 60M is the clause if anyone wants him, after that they’ll ask for even more. RbL never sells cheap

        1. “Reports ≠ actual budget we have.”
          This.
I suspect that our budget is made almost entierly by our revenues+ the sale of CDK, Krunic,…. and that the management didn’t inject anything.
In other words, I don’t think we have much more than 50M€-60M€.

          1. Brother, they were going to cash out 40 mil just for Zirkzee who is only 1 of probably 5 players that they will sign this summer, and each player they are looking at cost at least 15 million. How did you come up with “I don’t think we have much more than 50M€-60M€?
Milan posted around 10 mil profit this year, they will get less than 30 mil combined from the sales of CDK and Rebic. That right there isn’t enough to buy Zirkzee let alone to finance a whole mercato.

          2. They have already covered the budget extensively in different articles. you can google and read up on it.

Milan will get 50 mil for CL qualification, 17 mil from finishing second in the league, 23 mil for CDK, 10 mil for all the other players leaving combined (Krunic, Messias and others), and they made a 10 mil surplus last year. That is at least 100-110 mil for the mercato. Its not a guess, its facts.

Also like someone pointed out, why would they be ready to spend 45 on Zirkzee, 10 on Emerson, 25 on Fofana and 20 on Pavlovic (these are offers made) if they only had 40-60?

If they can sell Saelsmaekers for another 10 we could have up to 120 mil to spend.

So with what we reportedly are spending now on Morata, Fofana, Pavlovic and even Fullkrug (say 85 mil+ bonuses) selling Bennacer for 60 mil to Saudi or Thiaw for 30 mil to Newcastle still leave between 45-75 mil for the mercato depending on who leaves.

If Bennacer is sold Milan would have enough cash to activate Olmos 60 mil release clause. If he wants to join is a different story, but if Zlatan can convince Morata about the project, maybe he can work over Olmo as well? Milan is defenetly a bigger club then RBL. Problem would probably be his 10 mil gross salary a year, thats like 5 mil net in Lombardia. But it is what Morata is getting so…

          3. @🔴⚫️: I said what I said because despite supposedly having 90M€-100M€ and saving 27M€ from Zirkzee, we’re still starting at like 12M€-15M€ for Fofana (and don’t seem to want to pay more than that according to Moretto few days ago) and even strated very low for Pavlovic and Emerson. Paying full price for Morata+Fofana+Pavlovic is less than 70M€ (not including their contracts) so why starting so low and risk losing players to other bidders or having the player come late ?
@Dannyboy: I’ve read those articles but again are they official or is it just speculation ?
And again, if we have so much money to spend and were saved by going to Morata instead of Zirkzee, why are we wasting time on those deals with Fofana and Pavlovic instead of literally just get those deals done now ?

          4. Who said they were willing to cash out 40M? They never activated the clause. All we got is reports that they will do it after they deal with commission thing… more gaslighting imao

          5. @flyingturtle: In any case, I don’t see a convincing reason to not close Fofana and Pavlovic deals quickly since we got the players’ agreement.

  2. “Whilst the mercato has officially been open for two weeks, the true mercato has not yet been seen due to the European Championship and Copa America”

They reportedly have an agreement with him for a week now. He’s a key figure in Fonseca’s system. Instead they are lowballing Monaco and testing their nerves, letting Atletico to step in.

Quit clowning around and wrap it up you incapable bunch of hee-haws!

    1. Yet Atalanta signed CDK when he was at the Euros. Juve signed Douglas while he was at the Copa America. Inter signed Zielinski while he was at the Euros. This idea that you can’t sign players while at International tournaments is bogus and a bit of an excuse to mask inaction.

      1. Except it isnt. A few deals are made yes but its been super quiet for most clubs. Also buying someone just before or during the Euros/CA is a big risk if they get injured. The Euros and Copa America add on alot of games to an already long season. The risk of injuries skyrocket during the Euros/CA because of this.

Not to mention no player want to sit and do contract negotiations and plan their future in the middle of the competition and get distracted.

There is a reason for why almost all clubs wait for the conclusion of the tournaments, then go to work.

        1. Except it is as I’ve literally provided counter examples of signing players at major tournaments. This isn’t new. I’m just saying the idea that you can’t is ridiculous.

The risk goes both ways. Player does well at the tournament all of a sudden his price goes up. Bet you if France went into the final and Fofana happened to score that we’d be out of that race. Look at how Nico and Olmo are now more talked about in the transfer rumour mill. Goes both ways.

“Not to mention no player want to sit and do contract negotiations and plan their future in the middle of the competition and get distracted.” I swear you guys don’t know what an agent is for ffs or planning ahead for that matter.

    2. They want to ask discount from monaco so they can get fofana for 15m euro while monaco asking price 25m euro . This tactic are too risky , other club can offer fofana more salary
