GdS: Vranckx could be set for big opportunity vs. Monza as Pioli ponders rotation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach has been gradually inserting the summer signings into his rotations and there could be a big chance for Aster Vranckx on Saturday, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), there could be a fresh face in midfield for Milan against Monza as Pioli is in fact thinking of fielding Aster Vranckx from the first minute for the first time since he joined from Wolfsburg.

The Belgian midfielder arrived from the Bundesliga and has only been used in brief cameos off the bench so far, but he has grown a lot in recent weeks as his adaptation continues and he could be used to give Sandro Tonali a break in view of the big match against Dinamo Zagreb next midweek.

It comes after Yacine Adli made his first start for the club on Sunday in Verona and Malick Thiaw also got his debut for the club.

  1. Starting XI
    Maignan
    Kalulu, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo
    Vranckx, Bennacer
    Messias, Diaz, Rebic
    Origi

Leao, Giroud, Tonali should get some rest ahead of the big away game in Zagreb. Depending on the game outcome, Leao and Tonali can come on in the 2nd half, and even Giroud

  2. I’d go one step further – I wouldn’t risk Mike…

    Tata
    Kalulu – Ajer – Thiaw – Theo
    Pobega – Vrancx
    Adli – Diaz – Rebic
    Origi

If we go a few goals up id take off Theo and put on Dest, but we need those goals as has not great defensively.

    1. A few goals up? What’s your plan when they go a few behind with that lineup? You do know that Monza is well above Verona in the table whom Milan got very lucky against, right?
Milan is far from good enough to think anyone is a pushover.

      1. WCSG – that’s a fair point. It’s going to be difficult to balance winning games with resting players. Shows the limitations of our squad compared to the more established CL teams.

        1. Rotating one or two players in an expected easier game could work, wholesale changes are just asking for trouble. You must respect the opponent.

  3. I will rather go for this lineup:
    Tata
    Dest – kjaer – Thiaw – Balo
    Pobega – Vrancx
    Diaz – Adil – Rebic
    Origi
Cos the champions league is most at stake now than the Monza match. The league is just the 11th game by now and there is every possibility that the top teams will drip off some points on a long run. So pls, Dear Coach let’s go for this

  4. Why has Tatarusanu been starting over Mirante?

Tata has been terrible coming off his line to get any aerial ball (corner kick or cross). He didn’t come off his line on that 3rd Chelsea goal by Reece James to cut off the angle and in all cases I believe (of course Maignan would’ve, but also) Mirante would’ve done better.

Also, Tata’s passing w/ his feet is bad. He has SO MANY TIMES just kicked the ball long to midfield stripe straight to opponents when he has had WIDE OPEN teammates like Kalulu, Tomori or Theo with an easy pass. Our players are playing in the back as if we have Maignan and so they are preparing for shorter passes and keeping possession but he just launches the ball long. If a team’s strategy is for GK to launch it, we’d have more bodies forward by the midfield line to give us a chance to get the ball. During this time without Mike, one reason we’ve had so many problems scoring more goals is because we’re giving away possession more starting with Tata from the back and it doesn’t allow Theo or Bennacer or Tonali to get the ball from deep and begin to develop our possession like we usually like to do.

  5. We really need to make some changes to the starting 11 of course we must start with miracle, thiaw, toure, vrancx, adli, pobega, messias and origi than we give rest to giroud, tonali, bennacer, Theo, leao.. but we conceding a lot of goals this season compared to last season

  6. People need to realise that both Thiaw and Gabbia have very different characteristics to Tomori and kalulu. Gabbia is a ball playing defender; even though both Kalulu and Tomori start ahead of him and play lots more, you could see in the last game that they give him the ball when possible if long ball is the option. I didn’t see enough of Thiaw to judge him, but considering he used to play in the midfield, I would assume he has similar characteristics. I think he and Vrankx are both veryb astute signings.
