Watch: Daniel Maldini continues great form for Monza with lovely strike vs. Atalanta

By Oliver Fisher -

Daniel Maldini is continuing to enjoy a new lease of life at Monza as he scored against Atalanta last night in their home defeat at the U-Power Stadium.

The decision to cut short Maldini’s loan spell at Empoli in favour of a switch to Monza appears to be paying off as he scored his fourth goal in just 10 league appearances for his new club last night.

It ended up being for nothing as Atalanta held on to win 2-1, but the goal itself was excellent as he drifted in off the left wing and curled a shot in from around 20 yards out.

Daniel Maldini was also very close to scoring the equaliser too with a similarly precise shot towards the same corner, yet it hit the inside of the post and somehow rolled to safety.

After the game he spoke to DAZN (via Il Milanista) about the evening that he had including the result and the performance.

“A bit of bad luck and regret, but I’m happy with the team. We put in a great performance, it’s a shame how it ended,” he said.

“When I have confidence everything is easier, when I play from the start or I come on, I’m calm, thanks to the group and the coach. Having confidence is the most important thing for a player, having continuity is fundamental in my opinion.

“My numbers? I had never noticed it, but I’m happy. At the beginning of this year I felt quite good in Empoli too, but I wasn’t able to take advantage of the time and opportunities that were given to me. Now I can to do it and I’m happy to help the team.”

  1. I actually think he should be either DM or a central mid rather than a CAM. He has the attributes for it. Very silky in the tackle. He shouldn’t be afraid that his dad was a great defender and he has the same attributes. Embrace it instead lol
He’s had now, what about 5 goals/assists in the last 10? Not bad really. Hope he continues the form

    1. And his grandad was even a great defender too. So your outlook on his potential defensive capabilities are not far off.

      Must be those Maldini genes.

  2. happy for him to actually find consistency. never doubt he got the talent, it just without playing time and trust, his development beeeeeen slowed down
