Watch: Highlights of Malick Thiaw’s man of the match debut for Germany

By Isak Möller -

Malick Thiaw made his debut for Germany last night and it was indeed a successful night for the AC Milan defender, named the MOTM for die Mannschaft. Down below, you can take a look at the highlights.

The Milan defender played from the first minute and did really well on several occasions to deny Poland dangerous chances. Today’s edition of Bild named him the man of the match for Germany, which says a lot about his display.

CompsACM have compiled the best bits of Thiaw’s debut and you can take a look at the video below. It’s safe to say that the centre-back stood up well against Robert Lewandowski.

    1. Well, from more information it appears that aside some poor recruitment, our players leaving for free and poor sales was another offence committed by him.

To be fair, the deal for the sale of Laxalt was a poor piece of business, we could have earned twice as much for that deal. Also the Castillejo deal was a total failure as he had suitors especially in Spain, we could have earned between €7-12m from that deal, but we waited for his contract to expire and he left for free.
Let’s not even talk about Donna, Hakan and Kessie.

Selling two of our brightest Academy products: Tsadjout and Plizzari for around €1m is completely poor business at it’s highest.
Plizzari was followed by Manchester City and made a bid for him at 16, that’s to tell how talented he is, we could have kept him as back up, loan him out or sold for a reasonable fee. And selling Tsadjout for €200k is a complete aberration in modern football.

        1. You could have a point, I was thinking he does, but I think your view is a reasonable way to look at it.

          1. Are you an accountant or a football fan?

Seriously how is this a thing?

So called fans being more concerned about MONEY than actual football.

Worse, with your nonsense speculation about players leaving for free you’re siding with the enemy – greedy agents and players.

It shows the complete lack of perspective when all people care about is money money filthy money.

This under an article where we should be celebrating one of our players.

What’s the point you being a fan if you can’t experience joy?

          2. Calm down Maldinis Heir.

In football there are 3 sides:
            1. The Ownership
            2. The The players
            3. The fans

I speak as a fan, but in reality I am actually a football fan and a chartered accountant, but I don’t work for the ownership so who cares? Mind you, there are no enemies in football, it just depends on what side you are, ownership vs player is a business relationship. While the fan is an emotional relationship.

Will you invest money in a business, and hire a staff you deem not competent, but you keep him because some emotional people want him to work for you?

I’m not particularly happy that Maldini was fired, but at the same time, I don’t feel sorry for him.

I don’t care, I will only wait for the result of the decisions made before I come for the ownership, as a fan, I just want a competitive team to be proud of when we step into the field. If this can be achieved with or without Maldini, I DON’T CARE.

All I care about is my darling club success, my affinity with Milan goes beyond any family genealogy.

            Peace

          3. Maldinis heir whos to say we doesnt experience joy about thiaw as well ? i know i do as it was a super impressive debut he got but that doesnt exclude people also talking about other things related to the club as it is with all articles.

      1. Poor sales/leaving for free was happened before Redbird takeover and most importantly before Maldini’s renewal, so it doesn’t make sense if it is the reason.

The reason for the sacking was clear, Cardinale want to change recruitment system which goes agaisnt what was agreed during Maldini’s renewal last year, Maldini refuse so Cardinale sack him.

        1. Well read through my comment, never mentioned anything about renewal neither did I mention Redbird’s ownership, I only talked about Maldini’s work in his position.

          1. Assuming an assessment is to be carried out on Maldini, it definitely will be on the job in his capacity, his anticident and escapades on his position regardless of the ownership. Do you expect a recruiter to neglect your work experience? Definitely not.

          2. A renewal may not necessarily mean employer job satisfaction or guarantee, it could simply mean extended capability check and performance assessment period.

Now, like @Forțamilan pointed out, I may be wrong about the academy players sales though.

          1. milan has sold accademy players though under maldini but not many and not for high fees but i think one thing that should be considered in regard of youth players leaving and for that matter seniors is that there is an upcoming limitation of how many players clubs can loan out.
From 2024/25 seasons clubs will only be allowed to loan out 8 players per season and then the following season 7 and then the next settling in on 6 players per season,
Therefore it makes sense to slim down squads and only loan out the most promising ones,

Ill add furthermore that plizzari plays in serie c so i question whether we could have gotten much more as his contract was about to end and the player needed to be guaranteed minutes on field as he had completely stalled his development.
Tsadjout was 23 when sold and he is only a sub in cremonese so i doubt we would have been able to fecth much more for him and he certainly didnt have a spot with us as he has pretty much been a fairlure on every loan he has whent out on.

          2. Anyway, as for Tsadjout maybe not good enough even though I still feel we could have earned more from his sale.

But as for Plizzari, I think his sale was premature and it affected his development. I mean, I thought he almost as good as Donna, some even thought he was better than Donna, his prospects was there for all to see. I feel, we could have extended his contract and loaned him to a Serie B team where his development will improve or sold him for more.

I don’t think it’s solely a Maldini issue as I think the club has failed to fully utilise the potential of youth investment, from the quality of our academy players to the business model and players sales for profits.

          3. Dont get me wrong i quite like plizzari and had high hopes for him and i do remember berlusconi saying that he was a talent equal to donnarummas but just because a player at the age of 16 has a huge potential doesnt mean much if he hasnt done squat when he is 23.
He has been out on 4 loans in serie b and has only managed to play 54 matches combined in serie b and 1 coppa italia match, if he was as great as he was touted to be he would have played a lot more and with more consistency than only playing a max of 21 matches in a season,
In the end though whos to say that we didnt insert a 50% resale clause in the sale so he developes with brescia and then we earn some more cash down the road,
Anyways all the best to the player and i hope he will reach his potential and maybe return when he is older.

neither maldini or pioli is above criticismn on various matters but in regard of utilizing the clubs talents its all down to pioli who choses the starting line up but truth be told its only a small percentage of players who will ever reach the level of quality to play for the first team so it shouldnt come as a great surprice either.

          4. Well said Martin Bernhard.
Pioli ought to have been sacked, but I guess failure to do so still compounded things for Maldini.

          5. The issue is this absolute obsession with the transfer market, the endless speculation and gossip, the endless rating players like it’s some sort of beauty contest, the endless player turnover, the total lack of connection between fans and players these days.

The fact that so many fans completely missed the point of letting those mercenary players leave for free shows just how disconnected they are with the actual club they’re supposed to be supporting.

When Maldini forced players to honour their commitments to see out their contracts and didn’t cave in to unreasonable demands he sent a clear message that the club was bigger than the players, that the club values loyalty and integrity, and it was these values which have underpinned our return to the top because these values are what underpinned his great Milan sides.

This was more important than money.

And as an accountant I’m not sure you can claim any football club or sports team operates anything like a business. Their ego trips for owners. If they were businesses they wouldn’t have such high staff turnover!

          6. The fact is, since Redbird renew Maldini, Maldini never lost player on free transfer. If it’s his past experience of letting players go for free, Redbird would have not renew the contract.

          7. @Yelnats2418

I don’t like to sound like I’m on the side of ownership in this conversation, but for better understanding, here’s something you may need to consider.

In our Scudetto winning season, it was obvious that the RW, AM and CF positions needed upgrades in this order of importance. But the management decided to buy 18 years old Lazetic for €5m.

Now, we began the next season with the same weaknesses not addressed, RW, AM and CF (Diaz good, but inconsistent and going back to Madrid, Giroud simply needed more rest). The club didn’t make any significant upgrades in our attacking positions, but signed Vasquez a goalkeeper.

Now, this was what really baffled me in January.
We followed Zaniolo all January, Roma valued him around €40m, but an offer around €30m would have been enough to sign him.
Maldini had around €20-25m and kept going to Cardinale to request more money to fund the transfer. Cardinale refused, the offer made by Galatasaray that sealed the Zaniolo deal really exposed the inexperience of our transfer team. It showed our management lacks creativity in sealing deals.

Galatasaray signed Zaniolo with a €16m initial deposit and €13m in add ons. If you study the deal, and the add ons terms, you will raise your both hands in total respect for the Galatasaray transfer team.

Now as a club owner, and your Sporting Director kept on telling you add more money to the €25m to fund a transfer, after reading the Galatasaray terms of the deal and the creativity they displayed in utilising available funds, be honest, will you still be pleased to continue with that Director?

          8. @Maldinis Heir

If football clubs are not businesses according to you, then I think I have to apply caution in my conversation with you in order to maintain my sanity.

You may make a great author, a best seller caption “How to be a fan – by Maldinis Heir”

            One love.

  1. Didn’t see the game but what a performance if you only see the highlights! Makes one proud to see our player perform like that at a such a young age on international level.

I must say that Maldini was/is a legend on finding defender, lets hope Moncada has good vision for forwards and midfielder as those departments need hell of an upgrade!

  2. Maldini did the mercato, but Pioli is the one who responsible to put their best potentials out. Imagine if Pioli didn’t give chances to Thiaw in last January Milan’s worst moment, likely Thiaw is going to be another Vranck, CDK or Adli. Pioli less trusts in young players incompatible with company’s policy.

  3. Defending and attacking too…?? What a performance for Malick… Congrats..
