The replays suggest that Fikayo Tomori can feel very much aggrieved to have seen red after the incident that occurred in the 18th minute of the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The referee Siebert adjudged the below to be worthy of not only a penalty but also a straight red, despite the replay showing not a tug but merely a hand on the shoulder of Mason Mount – as is common in such situations – while Mount also manages to get a shot away by extending himself, showing that he was not held back.

And 6 Milan players got yellow for nothing. Meanwhile Chelsea players keeps doing hard tackle and only 3 of them got yellow.

I think what frustrates me the most is this.
Going by the referee’s logic, if Tomori’s action is malicious with a hand on his shoulder (without pulling him back forcefully) which he then chooses to remove, how is Mount’s manner of holding his arm outstretched back against Tomori not as ugly?
I really can’t wrap my head around this decision. Not to mention letting VAR intervene, nor the fact that Mount actually went his way, pulled the trigger and had his shot saved.
Mind-boggling to say the least.
Disgraceful referee today, anywhere else on the pitch and the ref is waving play on, it was not even a foul never mind a penalty. he puts his hand on his shoulder but does not pull back on him, its more of a brush across his shoulder, mount even has time to push Fik back with his left arm before he even goes down. Im fuming right now, we were in control and they pull this crap on us again after last year. This is why the super league needs to happen, UEFA is rotten to the core.
Cost us the game. It was a PK but not a red. It even a VAR check. Disgraceful. Shame as we were carrying the play and the atmosphere was electric. UEFA is so corrupt nothing new. And pls do not ever play that bum Dest again. He is atrocious. Offers absolutely nothing.
It wasn’t even a PK, Mount slide on his own to shot the ball, Tomori didn’t bring him down.
Note that based on the law of the game, it is either no foul + no red card or foul + red card.
Why is that?
According to the rules a red card is given for taken away a clear scoring opportunity (as the last man apart from the goalkeeper).
When a penalty is awarded (i.e. a clear scoring opportunity) then there is no basis for giving a red card!
At least that is the way some refs interpret the rules. Other refs obviously interpret the rules differently.
This big variation in interpretation of rules will sadly never be solved by VAR, because everything in calcio/football is based on ref’s assessment – unlike NFL where video replay challenges are objective.
Law of the game:
“Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling,
pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.”
If Tomori commited foul by pulling, it is definitely red card. So the question is whether he pulled Mount, based on her hand movement, I believe he did not pull Mount so it should have not been a foul.
@yelnats, what exactly has been denied, in that action? Mount takes the shot, doesn’t he? He has been disturbed, impaired whatever, not denied.

What’s new. We got screwed by refs last CL with the Kessie no goal v Liverpool and the Porto game calls. Without those awful calls last year we would have been through. Seems the same this year.
Most importantly, the penalty that should have never been given as Atletico’s player use his hand to push the ball toward Kalulu’s hand.
