Webuild director reveals more details on how San Siro renovation would work

By Ben Dixon -

Recently, plans have been put forward to AC Milan regarding the possibility of San Siro being renovated, and a director of Webuild has offered some insight into the project.

There remains a lot to be seen regarding Milan’s stadium situation, and whilst Milan are believed to be favouring the San Donato project, there have been persistent requests from the Mayor’s office to consider the proposition.

Recently, an Italian leader in the infrastructure industry, Webuild, came forward to offer their availability and services to take on the project in a way that would not affect the usage of the stadium.

This was later followed by reports that Milan’s owner, Gerry Cardinale, and Inter’s owner, Steven Zhang, had recently been in contact about the possibility of working together on a joint project. However, the Inter CEO later suggested they plan to favour the Rozzano project. Additionally, Paolo Scaroni stated his preference was for the Rossoneri to move forward with the San Donato plans.

Massimo Ferrari, the general director of Webuild and former AC Milan board member, spoke to Rai Sport about the plans for the project – his words have been relayed by Calcio e Finanza.

“We plan to work substantially from June to August for at least two years, asking at the limit to move a match, the last or the first, if necessary. In order to increase revenue, we need to work on the VIP clientele, sponsors and the ancillary services that can be built outside or near the stadium.”

What are the solutions for a new VIP area?

“Create it between the first and second rings, partly use that space and partly develop it outside, or develop it only outside with preferential access to the pitch.”
