AC Milan have started the season well in Serie A with seven wins out of eight putting them on top of the table, but a very testing and indicative week awaits.
However, as Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) writes, there are still some aspects to verify, such as the ability to beat the big teams. Out of eight matches, Milan have played six of these against teams that are in the bottom half of the table, with Inter and Roma the exceptions.
Against the former they lost 5-1, and against the Giallorossi they looked comfortable until a red card threw everything into doubt, though they did end up winning 2-1. Lazio are also among the teams Milan have faced, but they are 13th.
Extending also to the Champions League Stefano Pioli’s men have two 0-0 draws on their record despite two positive games against Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund.
This is why Sunday’s match against Juventus – who are third in the table – is an important test for the Rossoneri. The new players started well, but in the big matches the weight fell again on Rafael Leao who scored in the derby and against Roma.
The new group works against the ‘lesser’ sides but they must prove they can contribute against any and all opponents, especially given that Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez will be missing too.
Sunday’s match becomes even more important because it will open a very tough week, with three very challenging games. After Juve comes PSG in the Champions League and then Napoli in the league, both away.
It is a week to understand how far Milan can go: if the Rossoneri emerge unscathed, the title battle becomes truly within reach.
defeat, draw, defeat
After we have won those 3 matches, i will remind you that you are a big fool for not having faith on your own team Ac Milan.
I don’t think you worth being a Milan Fan.
Win… Win… Win…
