The head coach of Slovan Bratislava, Vladimir Weiss, was complimentary of AC Milan after last night’s game and confirmed their interest in one of his players.

Weiss had gone with the narrative before the game that his side could cause issues for Milan but also realistically could not be expected to compete with top clubs in the Champions League.

He can be incredibly proud of the effort that Slovan Bratislava put in, though. The equalised not long after Christian Pulisic’s opener and had one cleared off the line before that, then they scored another late on to make it 2-3 and ensure a nervy finish.

The Slovan boss was present in the press conference room at the National Stadium in the Slovakian capital to try and assess what was a rollercoaster night with plenty of positives for his side. His comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What kind of game was it?

“We conceded goals from three mistakes. Our opponents are a very strong team, they have very good players and great individuals. It was a difficult match, but we played well tactically, closing the spaces.

“For us it was the best performance. I wish Milan good luck for the next matches, I think they will get through to the last 16.”

How did you deal with them?

“It was very difficult to play against them in a one-on-one situation, but I’m happy. We defended compactly, trying to get pressure to have counter-attacks. Maybe with Strelec’s goal at the beginning it would have been a different match.

“I’m very happy with the performance, against an opponent who can go forward. Milan are the second-greatest team in the history of football, in terms of titles and players. If someone had told me that we would have scored two goals against Milan, despite losing, I would never have believed it.”

Do Milan like Nino Marcelli?

“It was motivation for him. The Milan scout was watching him, they have great scouts. He will be lucky if he plays regularly here. He has potential.”

  1. Marcelli took his goal well but Tomori and Musah basically rolled out a red carpet for him, littered it with rose petals and put on a buffet in case he fancied a sandwich.
