With the Champions League a miracle away, and general European football shaping up to be the same, a report has questioned if it could be beneficial for AC Milan.
In a season where a rebuild was promoted in the summer, Milan have regressed whilst spending heavily. Whether it be on compensation fees or transfer fees, the Rossoneri have certainly put money down, but the timings have always been wrong.
It can be argued that winter recruitment was a desperate attempt to earn some credibility back, but this has failed so far, instead the money should have been spent before the year started.
To further this, the sacking of Paulo Fonseca arguably happened too late, which rendered the situation further impossible to escape and Sergio Conceicao’s failure to reshape the season can be blamed on the higher-ups, as much as it can be blamed on the Portuguese.
With the loss to Lazio, Gazzetta dello Sport have questioned if this season could actually be beneficial in the long term, as paradoxical as it may be.
A staggering wage bill needs to be paid, and this is made incredibly more difficult without European football – causing an ‘impossible’ situation. However, it is the team’s own fault, after all, ‘easy matches do not exist for Milan’, and now, everyone is left to ponder ‘what if’ the team would be better without Europe.
Possibly true, or perhaps just desperate optimism, we’ll have to see.
Cardinale must eat humble pie, amongst other steps, and bring Maldini back. Maldini the Martyr, crucified for telling the truth – not Ibrahimovich, the ignorant Itinerant – is the defining and eternal symbol of AC Milan. Maldini’s Second Coming will immediately restore faith and help usher in a new Golden Age.
They must do better.
Probably team is gonna lose back ups like Chukwueze Ruben Loftus and Tomori, and we will see more of Bondo and Sottill players, but those cheap one were fighting with Pioli and catch scudetto.
Furlani must be very careful which one he is going to keep and which one to sell.
One Saelemaekers worth much more for both flanks and defensively than Joan Felix and Chukwueze together. Bondo should take Ruben Loftus cheeks place
And in for Tomori – we need strong name. Strong centre back. Also let’s bring Ricci in so Reijnders can have more freedom in attack.
Maldini won’t be back, why would he? Only way he can return when Redbird is gone
Ok; then Redbird should get out.
Well done Cardinale and the menagement ,u are doing great !!!
Les Midtables as a good friend used to say.
Zlatan ought to be studied on business class, how dirty práctices can destroy a decade of investments in under 24 months.
You know how you start a small business? Give a big and successful one to Ibrahimovich and his masters.
Les Midtables is my invention from Rossonei Blog times. Then that Milan10 or whatever his username was, overused it.
*Side note personal take on whether or not we will ever see Paolo Maldini back at Ac Milan.
**Completely unrelated to the article. I care less, sue me.
Lets start by acknowledge that Paolo had previously rejected an offer to come back in a managerial capacity during the Yohong-Li fiasco. Rightly so, he said the Club as at then wasn’t aligned with his principles on what it means to be AC Milan.
Much as we all crave the stability he brought when Elliot finally convinced him to return I keep wondering, even if Cardinale ate the humble pie and reached out to Paolo, could he really come back? The delayed renewal of his contract during his tenure, the manner of his exit, his treatment during the 125th Anniversary celebrations, the absolute butchery that the team has undergone after his exit, the lack of clear organisation structure in the back office, the fact that he’d be asked to rebuild the house he’d already built and watched being torn down, the irony that he was fired for asking for guarantees of structured financial support and decisional freedom only to be quickly replaced and see it handed to a washed up player he brought from MLS for morale boost, a former scout who was his subordinate and a f*cking wallstreet d*uche owner’s lackey all say otherwise. The reasons against basically write themselves at this point.
Most importantly, remember when Cardinale basically accused fanbases in Europe of being delusional for presuming they have a say in private equity owned Teams? We were f*cked then henceforth. Billionaires do not eat humble pie, are never wrong and will simply fire a few people/sell players and pocket proceeds or at worst, fire-sell the FC and cash out. When was Gerry last at the San Siro? Man’s checked out at this point so I expect drastic even cruel consequences in the near future. Who wants to work under such conditions? Not even me, let alone the greatest defender of all time with an impeccable record, bags of money, grown kids, stunning wife and a deserved retirement wherever he wishes to go.
In summary, pigs will take to the skies before Paolo Maldini ever returns to AC Milan. Let it go people. We are on our own.
Don’t be negative. Ok; if Maldini won’t return under the current ownership, the latter must be forced out. How? Two things must happen: (1) a campaign needs to be waged by AC Milan fans everywhere – in Milan, Lombardy, Italy, elsewhere – to persuade the Red Cardinal his time is up, and he needs to sell and move on; Maldini has to front a consortium of truly well-heeled investors who’ll buy the club and invest properly in it, install top-notch managers and other staff, restore the team’s core Italian identity, and significantly upgrade its quality.
I’m tired of mediocrity. One of Italy’s finest sporting assets has been run into the ground by people who are clearly out of their depth and don’t know what they’re doing.
Ye shall judge them by their fruits. Hail the Messiah! Bring back Maldini; eject the false prophets!
Indeed, game over there is no point to playing anymore. Because a reasonable target to stay in the League can be achieved even if you lose the remaining games. Then, you have to think about next year’s plan to only play in the local League, so of course the club’s income will decrease. Selling Theo, Leao, Maignan I think is very possible for the sake of a stable financial balance. Promote Torriani, Chaka, and make Sottil permanent. Promote Oddo to Senior coach because the Milan futuro project is a failed project.
Get out you Zlatan as advisor.
We do have No UCL to play for weeks and we lose all.
With no UCL, we will face a big trouble next season.
The management team include the owner has to admit that they are the real problem and look for some other big fund to buy rossoneri.
sooner or later gerry will be forced to sell the club when not profitable.
