What Milan need against Atalanta to secure Champions League qualification

By Isak Möller -

On Sunday evening, Milan will take on Atalanta in what will be a decisive clash for the Rossoneri, with Champions League on the line. Most likely, they need to claim all three points at Gewiss Stadium, which won’t be easy.

After failing to beat Cagliari last weekend, Milan are currently in third place with 76 points, as many as Napoli. The latter will take on Hellas Verona and could thus leapfrog the Rossoneri, and the same goes for Juventus (75 points) who will face Bologna.

Provided that they get the job done, then Milan will have to beat Atalanta in order to secure UCL qualification. Should any of them slip up, though, then a draw could be enough for the Rossoneri on Sunday.

Pioli’s men have H2H advantage over both Juventus and Napoli so finishing on the same points wouldn’t be a problem, even if all three do (Milan have a better goal difference in the mini-league that would result in).

Standings
