MN: ‘Two opposing factions’ – why discussions became ‘heated’ in post-Monza presser

AC Milan’s performance against Monza continues to divide opinion, and a report has claimed that it even extended into the press conference room post-match.

MilanNews talks about ‘two opposing factions’ that were created among experts, commentators and fans. On the one hand, there are those who consider the result satisfactory regardless of the performance, on the other, there are those who are considerably worried.

The head coach Paulo Fonseca is part of the first group. It was the Portuguese coach himself, after all, who made his stance clear in post-match interviews, in which he praised the team for how they ‘offensively dominated’ the games, managing the key moments of the match well.

Many, however, disagree with the coach. Many feel the victory was lucky as Malick Thiaw himself admitted, also helped by the referee’s decision on the goal from Dany Mota that was disallowed, and it certainly was not a harbinger of a great future.

In the press room at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, discussions on the issue were heated. Fonseca, as anticipated, said he was very convinced of his team’s match, even if his own player Youssouf Fofana declared that the team didn’t do well.

The Frenchman found support from several team-mates who also agree that the the victory is fine, the three points are fine, but yesterday’s performance – from a structural and stylistic point of view – was not at all positive and does not leave great expectations for the near future.

  1. This so bad. Leaving tactics aside, this guy has no idea how to talk to the press. He is playing a tough guy, but without credentials. I feel like it’s a matter of time before he loses the squads’ support, assuming he hasn’t already.

    1. I don’t care about press, I don’t care about his opinions or blunders. All I care about Milan finishing in TOP-4 and fighting for at least one trophy this year and by that perhaps keeping the most important players for the next year. I know it’s too much to ask from him though.

      1. Who hired this guy ..lol that victory mean just 3 points ..you can’t really coach properly we are playing very bad compared to piolis Milan

  2. I’m ready to treat Fonseca fairly but he needs to stop giving those delusional claims that the team have well last night and that Morata was magnificent. The Napoli match was played well and we lost. The Monza match not so well and we’ve won. That’s how it plays out sometimes. The two things don’t always come together. So if people complain about the the Napoli match – probably rightly so, they should spare abit of complaining about last night.

  3. I’d be interesting in hearing opinions on this observation. Our backline will only make simply passes. At on point we had Fofana, Rienjders, anthe the either Morata or Pulisic rotating to the open space for a pass from the backline. So many times one of these players were open and did not receive the pass. We play to the defense with a buildup that slowly pushed the defense back but allows them to keep their shape. No wonder the game becomes so hard and all we can do effectively is counteract.
