AC Milan will demonstrate their faith in Mike Maignan by extending his contract even in the midst of what has been a difficult recent period for him.
MilanNews writes that Maignan ‘is leader of this team, he always has been and he will be for the next few years’. The Frenchman is ‘undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world’, and after the clean sheet against Hellas Verona he will soon commit his future to the club.
Despite his latest big error in the Champions League against Feyenoord, Maignan remains among the best players in his position and a very important part of the dressing room. Milan have obtained the most clean sheets at home in the current Serie A season, something he must have played a part in.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, Maignan’s comments showed that he is not afraid of self-criticism and this demonstrates that he has the mindset of a player who wants to keep pushing to be the very best.
“It’s not the best period of my career. The important thing is to maintain positivity and confidence every day. It’s been three games that it’s been a bit like this, but I have confidence in myself. I have to continue working,” he said.
Despite the ‘unsatisfactory period’ that the 29-year-old has had and the ‘imperfections’ he has shown, Milan will soon sign off on the renewal of his contract. It will run until 2029 (or 2028 plus an option for an extra year and he will become one of the highest paid players in the squad at €5m net per year.
He is a good goalkeeper and should get a renewal. But if PSG offers 60M, I’d say goodbye. You can get Svilar, even this guy Montipo we just played against is good. They would cost under half the money and you wouldn’t really notice.
Kool. Pay rise but underperforming… hmmm 🤔 where have I heard something like that before
