AC Milan are hoping to renew the contract of Christian Pulisic, but the winger has put the brakes on things for the time being.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan want to tie Pulisic down further with a contract renewal until 2029 at €5m net per season. The captain of the US national team – who arrived in the summer of 2023 for around €20m – has proven to be a true leader of the team with his performances.

It was a proposal that was sent to the former Chelsea player at least two months ago by Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani. Pulisic’s current contract includes an option to renew the current agreement until 2028, but the club’s idea was to reward him with a pay rise and a longer deal.

Pulisic’s ‘U-turn’

The negotiations for the renewal were well underway but have slowed down in recent days due to the player’s own will. As Matteo Moretto also reported, Pulisic asked Milan for time because he wants to understand what the plans will be for next season.

The former Dortmund star is an ambitious player who wants to play in the Champions League every season and the 2024-25 campaign, in terms of management, has instilled some doubts about the future.

The will is to wait for the choices that will be made regarding the positions of sporting director and coach, to measure the ambitions of the club. A phase of reflection that has turned on the light of attention from the Rossoneri.

    1. I was about to say the same. It sounds weird, but a renewal of Pulisic seem like what will make this management wake up and also keep our best players. They see him as the flag figure of this team, because, yeah.. He represents the US, same as our dumb owner. But I’ll also understand Puli if he’s doubting on the future of the club as long as they don’t wake up.

    2. Well he has a contract lasting to 2027 and there is a club option to extend the contract with a further year so I doubt this story is real as the club can just extend it if they want to. If they on the other hand want to extend it any further then sure Pulisic will have a say but not in regard of extending it only for a year then the contract basically is already signed when he joined us it just needs to be activated by the club.

      1. True but he was bang on to extend to 2029 with a pay rise and now he’s saying maybe not. Players with a contract ask to be sold all the time, and that would be a very bad look for Cardinale.

        1. Yeah if its in regard of the 2029 sure. Absolutely it will definitely look bad for the ownership so I have no issues at all with him if he is trying to put some kind of pressure on Cardinale and the management as they fully deserves anything coming their way.
Hell I hope the fans will do the same by not buying season cards or merchandise next season.

        1. dont you know Jim, Milan is liquidating soon, every player is gone

you should find a new club to support

        2. Well first of all reijnders hasn’t even been sold yet and even if it might happen only time will tell. I am nevertheless correct that a club option in a contract can be activated by the club as they see fit as its just a part within the already signed contract. If the player is sold afterwards might be a different matter but that wasn’t really the discussion here.

  1. Not surprised and actually it’s good he does this. This will show the fans and players the true ambition of the club. Either strengthen the team or sell. Or just retire the whole club. Going on as a midtable team isn’t fair to the fans.

  2. Whether it’s intended or not, this is an act of leadership. He’s saying on behalf of all the payers to the owners: “Hold on guys, what’s the plan? Are we going to try to win in this league or not?”

If it’s the wake up call Furlani and Cardinale need, it will be an important moment in preparing for next season.
