Since 2020, Milan have kept tabs on Ricci. The 18-year-old midfielder who made waves for Empoli, the man who made Torino’s midfield his own. Now, the Italian National Team starter and one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe.
Throughout his journey, the Rossoneri have been there every step of the way. Watching, tracking, watching, interested, watching. At times, the cycle has become numbing. In fact, you can recall several instances in the past few years where it has seemed almost obvious that Ricci was going to join. Yet, until now, he never has.
The last few years for example, where the Diavolo have constantly looked at the midfield market, the Italian’s name has been heavily linked. However, the final step has never been made.
Even this summer, with Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri hoping to Italianise the squad it seemed the like the tape would rewind. This, despite the suggestions that Tijjani Reijnders’ exit would unlock the path, despite the continous links.
However, this time it didn’t.

If nothing else, it means that the Diavolo’s midfield instantly improves. Ricci is capable of sitting as a regista or playing as a mezzala, which makes him a multi-dimensional tool to be utilised by Allegri.
He opens multiple routes in the midfield for him too, whether that is opening the option to play a double pivot or a midfield three, Ricci can do a job. Quintessential for a manager who is yet to know the best strategy for his team.
Above all, though, it shows that Milan can complete deals quickly for who they want to. For a club like this, it is paramount to have the pull and power to make these sorts of signings. So, this acts as a reminder of the status of the Rossoneri in a year where it has been only remembered in a negative light.
