Mundo Deportivo: How Xavi convinced Kessie to leave Milan for Barcelona – “I need you”

By Oliver Fisher -

Franck Kessie decided to leave AC Milan upon the expiry of his contract and try a new adventure with Barcelona, and now some background has emerged.

After five years at Milan, the Ivorian midfielder – after winning the Scudetto – decided to bid farewell to the Rossoneri, joining the Blaugrana on a free transfer. Mundo Deportivo (via MilanNews) have today revealed some background on the negotiation, explaining how the role of the Barcelona coach Xavi was very important.

According to what the newspaper writes, it was Xavi himself who convinced the former Atalanta man with a short call during which he told him: “I need you.”

After that, Kessie listened to the project that the Catalan side were able to pitch to him and also the tactical ideas that Xavi has for him regarding his use in the team, his role as a player and the importance he will have.

  1. Xavi. Next time mind your own business. But at Milan we want volunteers not hostages. If your smart, which I doubt, you will be able to decider the semi riddle.

If thee is any doubt about where a player wants to play, there is no doubt.

Thanks Frank. Have a good life.

  2. Xavi son of b*tch
You don’t steal players with such a value for free. it’s just disrespect to Maldini.
really wish they will stay broke and will have to let players go for free or something

  3. I bet that they are going to sell him within 2 seasons, that is their policy now they don’t have more debt than money. Use their name to get player for free or even cheaper than usual and sell them as soon as possible. With all respect Kessie is a tank a simple footballer who runs back and forth without any issue he doesn’t fit in their DEAD tici-taka tactics

  4. Who cares! Kessie is gone and shown he is motivated by money. If he would have stayed his contract would have been more profitable. I still can’t forgive him for his words of commitment at the Olympics. He then went back on his word. Personally I think he will regret leaving.

  5. Why is a player considered bad if they leave for more money? Would you stay at your job if a competitor offered you double your salary? Most would not. For most players football is a JOB – not life and death like for us fans. Most are not as passionate about the club as others. Most players play because they are good at it and they know they can make millions – but most don’t have that same passion as others be be a symbol of a club or the best in the world. They play because it’s a way out and great way to make a living. But it’s short lived. On average it’s less than 10 years. It’s no different to us regular people. Some ppl love their job and company – others work for the pay check. They want to leave but money is too good or can’t find better job. We shouldn’t judge someone for leaving for more $$ IMO. You don’t know how he spends it or what he does with it. Maybe that player gives 90% of his wages to charity. Who knows. The point is we should not judge those who ask for more $$ if that is what the market dictates. And be prepared. We will face the same situation with players like Mike Tomori Tonali Theo Leao, etc….our players will not ALL stay for less wages when a EPL side can pay them double or triple their current salary. It’s just business. Had we been smarter in business we would not have lost Kessie and Donnaruma for free. We must face that fact. Hope it never happens again. But saying a person or player is evil because they want to get paid maximum amount of $$ is wrong IMO.

    1. “The point is we should not judge those who ask for more $$ if that is what the market dictates. ”

The fans have every right to judge them. We’re the ones who pay their salaries.

  6. We will not forget what Kessie has done for us. Now with that being said, please let it be the last time I hear of him on sempremilan. We use this platform to keep up with current players and transfers.

  7. OK… I see… we shouldn’t for real have problems if a player decides to go for more money OK…

But here is the problem, don’t play with the heart of the Milan fans with your words… you don’t promise you to solve renewals problem like that, leaving…

Make your opinions clear… no one will tie you down…

My point, leave if you want to… for money, better life.. that’s fine… but don’t play with our feelings. period.

  8. What I don’t like is he lied about he gonna stay at Milan and promise will renew quickly after he got home from African Cup. If he wants to find more challenges and better salary then he should just say it to Maldini.

But hey, at least he doesn’t talk bad about Milan and his teammates like Hakan did and stay professional until the end of his contracts.

  9. Football is a job for players, who wouldn’t consider getting paid higher? Bla bla bla bla… BS!!! There is a way for everything, u can leave us anytime if u want, and consider Barcelona fans, no want cares, but as players or u want me to change it as employer, if u want to leave isn’t it u need to tell the employee or the company about ur desire? So the company can replace you? Despite your leave cause by the end of contract? However, what cahssie did is out of an ethical way. He tell the company that nurture and pay him for the bad job he did for several year, patient for his errors, which cause loss for the company for several times. Afterwars, he did leave while the company in bad financial situation and even offer him increase in wage, after some promises that he want to keep working, but leaving without futher notice.
THAT IS WHY, THE FANS CAN’T ACCEPT THIS SITUATION. So, don’t judge us tje fans, if we hate him or saying anything bad about him not like u A SHITTY FAN that CAN’T FEEL THE SORROW OF THE CLUB after he abandon for just a little higher money, it is wrong saying badthing, everyone knew it, but u need to consider the heart of fans that betrayed by him. This situation similar to what dollarumma did.

  10. Why are they still writing about Kessie? He’s gone. He won’t be missed, just like DOLLARrumma who’s warming the bench at PSG while Mike has become the best goalie in Italy. Tonali, Adli, Bennacer etc. will easily make us forget about Kessie.

  11. Well, if we don’t want our players to leave for free, then we have to be proactive in the contract dealings, at least to add clauses that are activated automatically at the end of a contract, like Chelsea FC usually does.

We gonna miss him, he lied to us claiming he will renew, even though his performances dropped as a result of the contract situation, I can pardon him because he shows the club respect, and I think everyone (teammates and club staff) do understand that he really wanted to leave, but doesn’t want to break the bridge.

Despite all the love and respect that Inter fans showed to Lukaku, he spite the club the moment he went to Chelsea, now he’s back at them again.

I think we should show some respect to Kessie for his good work and respect shown to the club, after all, milan didn’t sign a life contract with him, he signed a contract, and he saw the contract through, and in the process we won the Scudetto, I can pardon that, I don’t know about you though.

I hope we whoop his ass in the Champions League.

  12. Atleast he is moving abroad and dont say bad about AC Milan , he is giving his best helping team get scudetto even sometime flop. Time to move on from him and dont need to write article about other club player anymore
