CM: Why Napoli want Pioli instead of Conte as their next head coach

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan and Stefano Pioli will part ways after this season, and the futures for both parties are unclear. However, a report has suggested that the 58-year-old could be on the move to another Italian heavyweight.

The managerial situation has become increasingly clearer as the game weeks have progressed. From the early stages, there was discontent with the ongoings, which only worsened with poor results and failures.

Nevertheless, Milan stuck to their word, and nothing has been officially announced, with a decision planned to be announced at the end of the season, even if everyone knows the inevitable. What is unknown, though, is the future of the club and Pioli.

The Rossoneri have been linked with several candidates, and whilst their list is gradually shortening, the pressure is growing, with the Curva Sud protesting this weekend to send a clear message.

For Pioli, though, things may not be as unclear. Whilst he has not decided on his future, he is not short of suitors, and this morning, Calciomercato.com have reported that Napoli could make a move for the soon-to-be unemployed manager.

The Neapolitan outfit had seemingly decided on Antonio Conte as their next manager, but the report suggests that Pioli is now a firm favourite for the job. Aurelio De Laurentiis appreciates the 58-year-old substantially, especially given his track record of holding a good relationship with senior members of clubs and lower contractual demands than other candidates.

  1. “Aurelio De Laurentiis appreciates the 58-year-old substantially, especially given his track record of holding a good relationship with senior members of clubs and lower contractual demands than other candidates.” – so cheap, spineless, yes-man who will make no demands and work with whatever garbage club throws at him. Perfect for Napoli, Roma, Lazio, Fiorentina type clubs.

  2. We should not caricature Pioli or ADL.

ADL is an egotistical cockbag but he has built Napoli from bankrupt phoenix to sustainable powerhouse and won a Scudetto in the process. Yep, he got drunk on power but he fundamentally knows what he’s doing.

Pioli is a good fit because Napoi needs stability and a dreessing room builder. No one is hiring Pioli because he is a tactical genius.

He’ll rebuild the team, and the dressing room. He may win another Scudetto. Either way, he will leave Napoli in a better place than he found it maybe for someone like Palladino in 3 seasons time.

He’s a safe pair of hands for what Napoli needs right now. We don’t need that because we’ve had him for 4.5 seasons.

    Good luck to them.

    1. We shall see. Napoli are about to sell Osimhen and probably Kvara as well. How will Pioli do without extraordinary players who can win matches by themselves?

  3. Because he will ask for a lower salary and is yes man..while conte will ask for more cash and isn’t a yes man.

    1. I call it the Thuram effect lol 😂
Haggle over the 1mil and then cost us literally two derbies and 6 points
