CM: Milan make ‘first contact’ with Lille striker in view of summer attempt

By Isak Möller -

Jonathan David has ended up at the top of AC Milan’s wish list and the Rossoneri could make a serious attempt in the summer. Contacts are already underway with the player, a report claims.

Olivier Giroud may have saved Milan at the weekend but he isn’t exactly getting any younger. Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are thus scanning the market for a young striker who can take over the reins.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Jonathan David is the primary target for the summer. His contract with Lille will expire in 2025 and Milan have already made the first contact with his entourage. At the age of 23, the Rossoneri believe that he’s the perfect name for the future.

The report adds that Milan also could try for Mehdi Taremi in January but the economic conditions need to be favourable. Given that Porto played hardball in the summer, the Rossoneri likely won’t be able to make a move.

Until then, Stefano Pioli will have to rely on Giroud, Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor for the No.9 role.

      1. Dia from Salernitana,
Zirkzee from Bologna are just 2 names only from serie A that are cheaper and better than David.
There are hundreds strikers around the world that Milan can sign. That’s Moncada’s job.
David has been pushed down our throats for the last couple years by the media. If he was good, one of these other teams would have signed him by now. But he is still at Lille making news by scoring penalties.
David isn’t even a type of striker that Milan needs. He is more of a 2nd striker. Not much different than Okafor.

    1. Boniface is valued at 12M – purchased for 20M
Retegui is valued at 16M – purchased for 12M
Sorloth is valued at 12M – purchased for 20M
      Zapata is valued at 8M
      Zirkzee is valued at 9M
Dia is valued at 25M – was already on a loan to buy (triggered) for 12M

Okafor is valued at 20M – purchased for 14M.

      David is valued at 60M

Taremi is valued at 18M – offer was 16M before his agent updated it to around about 35-40M
Porto is asking for 10M now and Inter and Milan are interested

Numbers from transfermarkt last updated following the summer window

  1. I know it sounds crazy but let’s try again for Taremi in January as a stopgap. (I like players who turn down Inter – unlike Thuram who’s got the same amount of goals as Okafor who’s not a starter or even a striker.) Then in the summer we really need to splash out on a quality striker for once.

    1. Thuram also leads the league with 5 assists.
The striker job is to contribute in the attack. Goals or assists doesn’t make difference.

      1. Dejan is on great point. Okafor is much more cheaper combined with salary and ammortisation than Turam who is only on salary.
Buying Taremi would give improved squad for Pioli, and in next summer buying David or similar would make huge impact on team quality.

      2. True – but a team does buy a striker to score goals first and foremost and he has two… One of which was against us when we were in turmoil and anyone could’ve scored that day.

    2. Ugh, Taremi will be useless. His biggest skill is diving in the penalty area trying to get a PK
      Forget him.
When the USMNT played Iran at the World Cup, the USMNT backline were able to completely neutralize him. So, yeah, think about that, when you wonder if he can replace Giroud.
I was really really glad that his entourage got too greedy and shot themselves in the head during the final stages of that transfer saga. Milan dodged a real stinker there.

    3. Taremi has so far scored only one goal in la Liga Portugal. Let’s also not forget what he did to us this summer.
As much as I think Thuram is too expensive, he’s so far having a good season and really made Thiaw look bad.

  2. Man, how many missed affordable strikers this past summer. Boniface, Retegui, Sorloth. I’m not sure David is built for Serie A. We need a stopgap for 1.5 seasons and then Camarda will be online. A good one for this role would have been Zapata, who we inexplicably did not even seem to look at.

    1. Boniface was just over 20mill and Retegui cheaper than that. How did we miss these guys? But we almost did a loan with obligation for Rafa Mir for $15 haha unreal
