Following four league games without a win, AC Milan are in desperate need of three points. The Rossoneri will face Fiorentina tonight and there are a few key battles to keep an eye on.
Stefano Pioli is dealing with an injury crisis and as a result, the youngsters Francesco Camarda (15 years) and Jan-Carlo Simic (18 years) have been called up. Furthermore, the attacking trio will be a makeshift one, with Luka Jovic starting up front.
There will be a number of interesting battles across the field, starting with Theo Hernandez against the technical winger Nicolas Gonzalez. The latter has scored six goals this season and the Milan man has been known to cut corners in defence, making for a potentially decisive match-up.
Moving on, Davide Calabria will have to shut down the crosses of Cristiano Biraghi. It’s true that the right-winger Samuel Chukwueze will be heavily involved in this too, but the Rossoneri captain will have to shut down the overlaps. The Fiorentina captain, as we know, has a very good left foot.
In the middle of the pitch, Rade Krunic (or Yunus Musah if he starts) will have to help his defensive teammates with stopping Giacomo Bonaventura. The former Milan man has been in exceptional form lately and, in the defensive phase, he will likely also try to stop the Bosnian’s possession.
Up front for Milan, Christian Pulisic will be on the left flank and his opponent will be Fabiano Parisi, who normally plays as a left-back. The American could have an advantage from the get-go, therefore, especially since he likes to play on the left flank. It remains to be seen how the Fiorentina defender will handle playing on the wrong side, although he has done it in the last few games.
Finally, it goes without saying that Luka Jovic needs to step up for Milan this evening. He’s yet to find the back of the net for the Rossoneri and tonight is a good opportunity to break the drought. He will be up against his compatriot Nikola Milenkovic, who is a very experienced Serie A defender at this point.
