GdS: Milan have Lopetegui-esque contract ready for No.1 target Conceicao

By Ben Dixon -

Over the weekend, AC Milan made strides to make Sergio Conceicao their next manager, and today, a report has suggested the contract that the Portuguese manager will need to become Stefano Pioli’s heir.

It is not known when the decision will be announced regarding Pioli’s departure, given what the club have stood by – that a decision will be made at the end of the season. However, with the advancements in the managerial landscape, something could be announced before this date.

Talks with Conceicao have advanced very quickly, and he has become the favourite for the soon-to-be vacant post and a meeting has been arranged between himself and Porto to discuss their future, or lack of it. Nevertheless, the Portuguese manager holds all the cards and could walk away from his €28 million contract.

Sticking with salaries, with this weekend’s advancements, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Record) have offered an insight into the figures which may be required for Conceicao to join the Rossoneri. After signing his new deal at Porto in April, he would earn €7m per season at Porto if he stayed. However, Milan are offering a figure similar to what Julen Lopetegui was offered – €4m.

The report suggests, though, that this figure is in line with Conceicao’s vision, and given he is ‘set’ on a move to Milano, where the fans have given their approval, a deal could move quickly.

  1. How is this information leaking out so much? Is Milan deliberately doing this to take the temperature?

    To management:
Just f*cking sign someone already. Show some balls, make a decision, and go for whatever you think is best for the club. You know better than we do in EVERY WAY. You have the expertise, the resources, the scouting, the budget….

  2. Honestly I start to wonder if it’s not their strategy to wait all the time. They waited to extend M&M in 2022, last summer they waited for Thuram, Taremi, Kamada, Loftus-Cheek last year. Is it a strategy to say “hey sorry we tried but someone was faster”? But no it can’t be because they are “ambitious”.

  3. This is actually a good choice fron the managment if it happens. He has won 9 titles with porto plays good football with really good defense and pressing. He has a clear playing style unlike pioli. He knocked juve out from ucl some years ago and have quaified for ucl knockout stages multiple times and he has a serious winning mentality i really like coincecao. He is also pretty modern coach with the style and still 49 years so he has experience but not to old.

    1. I also thought same but I just read on some other site, that is gross salary so he comes at around 3.5 per season.

  4. This is just steam and smoke… I don’t even think the management knows yet who to hire yet.

These are just the names media is fixated on. It could be a name completely out of left field altogether…

  5. He’d be a good choice.

I’d prefer to get a coach on the way up. My concern with Conte and Sarri is they’re on the way down.

You’re only as good as your last job…
