Christian Pulisic expressed his joy after the United States national team won the CONCACAF Nations League final against Mexico last night, crediting AC Milan with his return to form.
Milan might have secured the signing of the summer in Serie A, having signed Pulisic from Chelsea after a difficult season. Since joining, he has racked up 12 goals and provided eight assists in 39 games across all competitions, with many of them being important goals too.
The Pulisic effect, however, is not only felt on the pitch but also off it too given the commercial impact that he has had. The captain of the United States national team took the number 11 shirt, the one that belonged to Zlatan Ibrahimović, and there has been a boom in sales.
The 25-year-old will return to Italy with a winners’ medal having played almost all of the final against Mexico last night, which ended 2-0 to the USA thanks to goals from Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna.
Pulisic was interviewed by CBS Sports at the end of the game and was asked for his emotions after the ‘three-peat’, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
How are you, what do you feel after this victory?
“I feel great, I’m really happy to be here. What can I say? Incredible.”
Now you’re a starter at Milan, you play, you score, you get assists… At what point are you in your career?
“I’m loving life in Milan, it’s incredible. I have found confidence again, I think you can see it from how I play. It’s fantastic there, but also to come back here [to the USA], win another trophy… I really like being back in the national team with this team.”
What are the differences between playing on the right and left?
“I never thought I’d feel so comfortable on the right if I’m honest. But I still prefer to play on the left because of how I can cut in to the right, but I must admit that I have learned a lot, my way of playing has changed a lot and I have found ways to get into the area and score goals even starting from the right. I think I have a lot of qualities and can do well in both areas of the pitch.”
What feelings do you have about the America’s Cup in the summer after this CONCACAF victory?
“We have excellent feelings. It’s always nice to be back in the national team with the boys, it will be another trophy to try to win. It’s all part of a journey, exciting years await us in the States between the Copa America and the not so distant World Cup. We are happy to have these opportunities and we must show the world that this is just the beginning.”
