Report: Milan defender Florenzi involved in betting scandal investigation

By Isak Möller -

The betting scandal that resulted in bans for Nicolo Fagioli and Sandro Tonali is not over. AC Milan defender Alessandro Florenzi has now been implicated, a report claims, with the interrogation set to take place in the coming days.

The former Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali was handed a ten-month ban last month for his involvement in the betting scandal. The current Newcastle man admitted to betting on football and the length of the ban was significantly decreased thanks to his cooperation.

According to Agenzia Italia, Florenzi is involved in the betting scandal and will be interrogated by the Prosecutor in the coming days. It’s possible, however, that the veteran hasn’t placed any bets on football, spending money on casino games instead.

Nicolo Zaniolo was also questioned on the same accusation a while back but explained that he only played poker as well as blackjack. His case will likely be dropped, therefore, and it remains to be seen if Florenzi will have the same defence.

In the meantime, we have to wait for more reports on the matter and not jump to any conclusion. Once the interrogation has taken place, more information should be available and then the effects on Milan can be discussed properly.

  1. If he wasn’t betting on football games, especially on Milan games, who cares if he gambled. Gambling isn’t illegal. He is a grown man and can waste his money any way he chooses.

  2. ACM wont renew his contract too. If he is banned then that talented RB can be promoted from primavera to take his place. Not a big problem for ACM

  3. This is getting out of hand.

There needs to be an investigation of the betting companies who are the bad guys here not the people they target.

    1. Despite all those big bad betting companies and all the drugs around, I’m not an addict nor do I have a gambling problem. I don’t even drink that much and alcohol is legal and quite normalized. Sometimes it just boils down to personal responsibility and then accepting the consequences. If you can’t do the time, don’t commit the crime.

      1. That guy is a kid 100%. He can’t be over 15 because he always speaks like a child and replies like someone is forcing adults to do something.

  4. Well if you have watched a Premier League game you would’ve noticed their sponsors are almost exclusively betting companies with few other companies here and there. Hell even we were sponsored by BWin back in the day.
