Rivera discusses De Ketelaere’s struggles and sides with Maldini: “Paolo didn’t deserve that treatment”

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan playmaker Gianni Rivera has not said no to the idea of returning to the club in the future, but took the side of Paolo Maldini after his sacking.

Rivera played the majority of his career Milan after beginning his career with hometown club Alessandria and he was part of a very successful Rossoneri side in the 1960s, one that won multiple domestic and European honours.

He ended up with Serie A titles and two European Cups and was also the team’s captain for 12 seasons, also establishing himself as one of the passers and creators in Italian football history if not the sport in general.

Rivera was spoke during an interview with Corriere della Sera about a number of topics from a possible coaching job to the recent movements at Milan, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

On investing in football: “With a group of entrepreneur friends we decided to invest in football, in Serie A or B. Starting with Bari.

“About twenty days ago I had a telephone contact with the mayor Antonio Decaro, we pointed out to him that we are available to buy the club. I’ve always liked the idea of taking a team from Serie B to A. I also have the Gianni Rivera Academy which could raise many young players.”

On the Champions League final: “The same thing happened to the Nerazzurri that happened to Milan in the semifinal against Inter. Missing two goals cost the result. The Champions League doesn’t forgive.”

On De Ketelaere: “I don’t know him well enough to be able to say what’s best for him. If he has what it takes, he has to pull it out, if there are obstacles that block him, he or the club must remove them.”

On Maldini’s farewell: “Paolo didn’t deserve that treatment. The club had to make the resources available to him to improve the team, not kick him out, much less in that way.”

On Berlusconi: “I haven’t been an admirer of his. We have traveled different paths and lived in opposite worlds but he is certainly a man who has made the history of Milan and football.”

On coaching Milan: “Never say never.”

Apparently, any criticism of Cardinale will land you as a Maldini’s bedmate according to these cardinale yes men going out everyday with Cardinale’s farts as perfumes in this blog. LOL

Here is a fun fact. Cardinale ain’t Milan. Licking Cardinale’s boots won’t really make you guys look as cool as you might be thinking! lmfao
