The Mayor of San Donato Milanese, Francesco Squeri, has revealed more details regarding AC Milan’s plan to build a new stadium in his area of the city.
Yesterday, the aforementioned Council signed the resolution on the proposed urban planning variant for the construction of the facility, which was the first big green light.
A press release confirmed the news, and after the Milan Board of Directors met two days ago to approve the purchase of new land in the area, which means things are a couple of steps into the five-stage plan.
Squeri offered an official comment during a press conference held yesterday and he confirmed some of the timelines and parameters of the Rossoneri’s plans.
Today, the Mayor spoke on Radio Sportiva about Milan’s plans to build a new state of the art stadium in the San Francesco area, a 70,000-seater facility that they hope to open in October 2028.
“Stadium in San Donato? Yes, the complete area between the railway, with the Milan-Bologna high speed line, and the Autostrada del Sole. We are at km 0 of the Autostrada del Sole,” he said (via TMW).
“It is an area that has been buildable for more than 30 years, it is not within the jurisdiction of Parco Sud Milano. From an image point of view it is an ideal area.
“Just imagine how many hundreds of thousands of people see the stadium every day, some from the train and some from the motorway.
“Milan intends to make a very cutting-edge project, it is a project that will truly come to be seen from all over the world. As long as it happens.
“They turned to the largest architectural firm for sports constructions, which is the Manica studio in London. They want to do something that truly amazes.”
