Scaroni responds to Maldini question: “When somebody looks at the past with bitterness”

By Ben Dixon -

It is nearly a year since Paolo Maldini was sacked by AC Milan, and at a recent event, the Rossoneri’s president, Paolo Scaroni, replied to a question regarding the legend.

The summer of 2023 will be remembered fondly for the additions of Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders, among others. However, the off-season will also be remembered for the departures of Maldini and Sandro Tonali, which was a blow to Milan.

Losing two fan favourites – who have had a clear impact on the Rossoneri in recent times – will always hurt, but losing both in such a short period made a few speculate how the club would move forward without the presence of the duo.

However, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival, things seem to be on the up, and with Stefano Pioli set to depart in the upcoming summer, there is a feeling of optimism surrounding the club about stepping into a new era.

Scaroni spoke at an event organised by Il Foglio and responded to a question about Maldini – his comments have been relayed by Football Italia.

“I have not heard from him. When somebody looks at the past with bitterness, it means that he’s not living the present too well. I hope this is not Maldini’s case, and I wish him a life full of satisfaction.”

  1. Ouch this line from Maldini must have been a nail in the head for this old man.

“Milan deserves a president who only looks after its interests and managers who don’t leave the team alone. He never asked if the players and team needed encouragement.

“I often saw him leave when the opponents equalised or took the lead, perhaps just to avoid encountering traffic, but punctually in the front row for the Scudetto. I have a different concept of sharing and groups.”

    1. Such statements definitely tell how frosty the relations between the two are over the years.
As fans, we hope they both get what they deserve

    ????????

    1. maybe it was ChatGPT 😀 “write an feel-good statement about the future of Milan”

I don’t feel optimism btw, it’s a complete unknown how things will turn out. This year is a pivotal point that will show the true colors of the current management.

      1. LMAO 😂😂😂@ chat GPT

I think they confuse optimism with “please pretty please let this go well crossed fingers 🤞 and crossed toes with a shamrock 🍀 ”

I’ll say this now while we’re at it. They’ve managed to push themselves into a corner which is going to be extremely difficult to get out of. The next manager will have to win the Scudetto in order to make firing Pioli make sense. That’s an insanely tall order and I feel sorry already for the next bloke

      2. I think my biggest concern with sacking Maldini was that Maldini and Massara had a vision and a plan on how to win sustainably.

Were there ups and downs. Absolutely.
        Did they make mistakes. Absolutely.
Did they have the best plan. Who knows.

What we do know, is that under them we achieved something we hadn’t seen in a long time.

They invested in the future with youngsters. A bunch of them panned out and a lot of them didn’t.

They invested in our youth team with the thought of those players creating transfer windows where we didn’t need to spend as much.

They had the vision that we replace a 2 or 3 parts each transfer window to strengthen the squad with quality players instead of a complete overhaul after selling core members.

They had a vision that each player brought in would KNOW Milan and fight for the badge on the front, not the name on the back.

What do we have now? Leaders who first and foremost want to make money and secondly hope to win.

We HAD leaders who understood that winning makes you money over the long term by bringing your brand back to the elite status that it should never have left.

We have leaders who have no idea what it takes to win consistently with Milan.

There is an entity that does not live in the present too well, its name is AC Milan.

        2. The most apt and reasonable summary of what happened

Certain intangibles you can replicate and that’s what they brought

  3. Scaroni is a sore loser! Talking to someone who hasn’t got any damn thing about you….Milan deserves a better president

  4. Why would you be bitter if you had his status as legend player, legend of the club and the guy who gets as much individual credit as anyone does for ending the banter era only to be replaced with an accountant and a guy who doesn’t know what he is doing?

  5. Elliot gazidis and maldini’s milan did good things
Cardinale furlani and zlatan’s milan is at risk of regressing
