Sky: Pioli has just one battle to settle for Milan’s XI against Atalanta

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Atalanta underneath the San Siro floodlights tomorrow evening and after two consecutive defeats, Stefano Pioli will rely on ‘the usual XI’. There is one battle which the manager must settle, though, as a report claims.

Tomorrow’s game will be incredibly important for the league standings as Atalanta are just seven points behind, and with a game in hand as well. Therefore, as was also reported earlier today, Pioli is expected to field the best possible XI.

According to Sky Italia this evening, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli has indeed made up his mind but there is still one battle which must be settled: Davide Calabria vs. Alessandro Florenzi. The former has recovered from his injury and by the looks of it, he’s already in good condition.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi (Calabria), Thiaw, Gabbia, Hernandez; Bennacer, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

The feeling is still that Florenzi will get the nod, but Calabria cannot be ruled out for now. The captain got injured in the 1-0 win against Napoli and has since been working on his recovery. Florenzi, meanwhile, has done well in Calabria’s absence and will be looking to continue on this path.

The game is scheduled for 20:45 CET and it should be an exciting one for both teams. Pierre Kalulu has also been called up, while Fikayo Tomori needs a bit more time.

    1. Calabria has been far more consistent than Florenzi and most of our players this season and he’s our captain, youth team product, arguably one of the best 1v1 defenders on the planet, and has provided key assists.

But it seems nothing he does will ever be good enough and I suspect is because the media and fans are eyeing up the right back position for an upgrade.

I mean we’ve gotta keep signing new players and replacing every single player in the squad. Captain’s next!
