Vitiello: Milan ‘determined to invest’ after disappointing season

By Ben Dixon -

There is no other way of putting it. For AC Milan this season, it has been a stream of disappointments where rare spells of positivity have been quickly brought down. However, the management are aware of this and will invest heavily during the summer mercato.

For several reasons, this season has been a failure, even when the objectives have been altered. The humiliating Derby della Madonnina defeat left a sour taste in the mouths early on, but elimination from the Champions League, the Coppa Italia, the Europa League and then another defeat to Inter meant the season could not be viewed as a success.

There is one slight saving grace, though. Milan will play in the Champions League next season and look en route to finish in second position, giving them an entrance into the Supercoppa, which is beneficial for revenue on several levels.

As a result of this financial boost, the Rossoneri are in a stronger position to invest in the summer, and the management is ‘determined’ to in the upcoming mercato, according to reports from Antonio Vitiello on MilanNews.

The board are aware of the issues within the team and aware of the gaps that will be created by departing players and want to ensure these are fixed. Additionally, after this season, they understand the disappointment but feel confident about the base for next season, which can be built upon.

  1. This season already fail when this management fired M&M . Their daily presence for this player is fundamental for our player mentality . Now look at this Milan no direction at all , no clear desire , no soul . just a bunch of guy playing like they know everything . And please fired moncada this guy always looking to france cheap player rather than give more chance to young italian player to prove themselves.

    1. Nah.. we were doing fine without M&M. Because a hear before we had M&M and we barely finished 5th. So your argument that their daily presence was somehow beneficial doesn’t hold much watta

      1. Tell me how much the signings that Furlani brought in can be sold for? It will be minimal profit even if a club is willing to overspend. Thank you M&M that you may have another good transfer budget if Theo is sold.

        1. Dude , compare theo that already 5 years on ACM with new signing that still on first year with ACM not objective, who knows what happen in future . Pulisic alone already give more income for ACM in USA market . Theo first season ( ACM buy 20m euro ) are failure too , get slaughter 5-0 with atalanta and ACM finish on UEL spot , he is not even worth 30m -40m euro at that time . Tonali if you dont sell him , your team cannot use him till august ( fabrizio romano : tonali get extra 2 month banned for betting again for newcastle ) . Honestly last season transfer are all failure like activate buy option for 2 old player florenzi & junior messias, buying cash CDK & thiaw , signing origi free transfer. Look at thiaw performance this season , he cost ACM many points

    2. You can’t be that critical of Moncada. What he and Milan have brought in since he became chief scout is so much better than the team we had before. He started in 2018 when our team consisted of players like Laxalt, Rodriguez , André Silva, Bonaventura, Kessié, Piatek, Calhanoglu, Montolivo, Biglia, Conti, Higuain, Cutrone, Castillejo, Romagnoli, Donnarumma, Suso and Paqueta.

Arguably some really good players. But many old, many who have since failed at top level and many who just didn’t work in Milan. A couple of them would be a great addition to today team. But mist I wouldn’t want to touch with a stick. I think we have a better team today.

But I agree, some more italians would’ve been nice to have.

    3. Blaming scout at that time show your lack knowledge. Do you know what scout job ? Moncada only providing list of player that club needed but dont have power to buy that player, it is director job to choose from that list and decide to buy which player. Cheap french player theo & maignan, also signing low fee for kalulu & giroud , without cheap french player no scudetto for ACM

  2. Yeah, it was funny when fans and some media said that one of the reasons Milan lost the derby to inter was because no one from management was at Milanello during the week, unlike in the past when M&M were always there. Well what good did that do when 4 of the 6 losses in a row vs Inter happened while the infamous M&M was at milanello.
4 losses with Milan scoring 0 goals and having almost 0 chances to score goals.
They used the same excuse for why Milan got knocked out by Roma in Europa league. It wasn’t that Pioli was outsmarted by a rookie coach. Nope , it was because management wasn’t at Milanello 24/7.
