Former AC Milan owner and president Silvio Berlusconi dies aged 86

AC Milan’s legendary former owner and president Silvio Berlusconi has passed away at the age of 86, multiple reports have confirmed.

Berlusconi’s health had been of concern for some time given that he seemed to be in and out of the San Raffaele hospital in Milano quite a bit over the past few years, and it has been confirmed that he has passed away.

Berlusconi was a media tycoon and politician who first came to office as Prime Minister in 1994, holding the position in four different spells up until the last time in 2011.

It was on 20 February 1986 that he rescued AC Milan from virtual bankruptcy and from there he began transforming the club into a European superpower, a status they maintained throughout virtually all of the 31 years he spent at the helm.

Under Berlusconi and his right-hand man Adriano Galliani, the Rossoneri won 8 Scudetti, 1 Coppa Italia, 7 Supercoppa, 5 European Cups/Champions Leagues, 5 European Super Cups and 3 Intercontinental Cups/Club World Cup.

On 13 April 2017, he sold the Rossoneri club to all entrepreneur Li Yonghong Li and on 28 September 2018 he bought Monza, who were promoted from Serie C to Serie B and then to the top flight of Italian football.

Everyone at SempreMilan sends their condolences to his family and those close to him.

  1. Thanks for everything Silvio, i doubt that anyone will ever accomplish what you did for ac milan. The world just got a bit more boring with you not amongst us anylonger,
    Forever gratefull.

  2. RIP Berlusconi, despite our financial crisis at the end of his ownership you cannot denied that he’s our best president and brought us to so many glories.

  3. Loved him as owner of Milan.

Laughed at his trolling of the EU.

Respected him when it became clear to me that he was a euro-sceptic all along. I suspect this is the real reason that Berlusconi alone has been shaped as ‘the corrupt one’ in a political and bureaucratic system in Italy (and the EU) which is as corrupt as the day is long.

  4. Elephant has fallen . An icon in the football industry has gone . What a sad day ! I read the news and I almost shed tears. We will never see another Berlusconi in Milan history. We can never have a man who loved our dear club with a passion. Good bye Berlusconi. Rest in peace.

  5. Condolencias desde Puerto Rico para la familia el mejor presidente nos demostró que podíamos levantarnos después de caernos muy fuerte

  6. Thank you Berlu for all the joys you have delivered to us Milan fans. A legend, an icon, a visionary who was one of the pathfinders of modern football that we know of now. Rest in peace. You will have the eternal respect of every Milan fan.

  7. RIP legend. He is the reason why AC Milan is known worldwide and for their legends and footballing history and innovations. Though I wasn’t a fan of how he operated towards the end of his reign, one cannot deny his imprint on the club.
    Rest well Mr President
