AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek has claimed he does not believe in the supposed ‘curse’ of taking the number nine shirt.
Last season Piatek wore the number 19 shirt and was the Rossoneri’s top striker with 9 goals in 18 games. A number of club legends have worn the No.9, such as the likes of Pippo Inzaghi, George Weah, Marco van Basten, and Gunnar Nordahl.
However recently it appears the jersey has become somewhat of a curse, with Higuain, Silva, Lapadula, Adriano, Torres, Destro, Matri and Pato occupying it to varying degrees of success. The Poland international, though, isn’t worried.
“The curse of 9? I don’t believe in superstition and this curse,” he told il Corriere dello Sport.
“For me 9 is normal, everything will be fine as with the 19. I’ll be in great shape, you’ll see. It doesn’t scare me.”

Based on the effect that Piatek had on the team last season, we can only hope that was just the beginning. With a new manager and formation, hopefully, Piatek can make the ‘curse’ a thing of the past.
