AC Milan’s Yacine Adli spoke about how he is finding his new role at the base of the midfield, while he also revealed what Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been like since his return to the club.
It has been a strange few months so far this season for Adli, who started the season getting some opportunities after a bright preseason but then seemed to vanish in the build-up to Christmas with others preferred.
However, Tommaso Pobega has been sidelined for several months, Ismael Bennacer has already departed for the African Cup of Nations and Rade Krunic is on the way out, so the Franco-Algerian found himself starting the last two games in a deeper-lying role.
Adli spoke to Sky after the win against Empoli to reflect on a job well done in Tuscany and also reflect on how the last few weeks have been for him personally, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
How are you finding the deeper role?
“For me it’s a new role that I’m learning. I needed time to learn it, but I think I’m on the right path. The first months were difficult, now I have to continue like this. Playing allows you to find the right rhythm.”
Is this a strong group?
“I want to give everything for this team. We have a fantastic group, I try to give everything for this group and for this club. We must continue like this.”
A lot of young players have been used recently…
“The club’s project focuses on young people. We have experienced players who we listen to a lot. We must all push together in the same direction, so we will do great things.”
What is Ibrahimovic like in his new advisor role?
“Ibra is a leader, we know that with him we have something more. He doesn’t put himself in front of anyone, he doesn’t talk too much, he’s here to help the group.”
