Adli highlights what Milan lacked in first half against Roma but insists belief is there

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were not at the races during the defeat against Roma last night, but Yacine Adli believes the team will come back stronger in the second leg next week.

It is advantage Roma after the first instalment of the Europa League quarter-final clash last night as Milan put in a performance that could be described as flat and lethargic, to put it as nicely as possible.

The only goal of the game came early on in the first half as Gianluca Mancini was given the freedom of the 18-yard box to head home a corner having lost his marker.

The Giallorossi kept their shape and kept the ball well, Olivier Giroud really should have levelled the tie late in the game when he rattled the crossbar from about six yards out.

Adli spoke to Milan TV after the game to reflect on what was a difficult night for the team but one which only marks the halfway point in the tie. MilanNews published his comments.

Are there regrets about the second half?

“We tried to attack them stronger, we didn’t manage to score but we brought the aggressiveness that was missing in the first half in the second half.”

Bad luck or missed chances?

“It’s part of football, we have a return leg and we want to go to Rome to overturn the result, we believe in it.”

Now you have to go to Rome and win…

“We want to put in a different performance at their home, I’m sure about that. It will be tough because they are strong, what matters is now, we will have time to prepare as best we can for the return match.”
