Agent confirms Kjaer will leave Milan: “For Simon, it is a perfect situation”

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Simon Kjaer has confirmed that the defender will leave AC Milan at the end of the season on a free transfer once his contract expires.

Kjaer arrived at Milan on a loan deal in the spring of 2020 – incidentally together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic – to add experienced strength to the young Milan team.

He earned a permanent deal and since then he has made 120 appearances for Milan, which makes them the club outside Denmark for which he has played the most games.

However, his deal is expiring and there have been widespread reports suggesting that the time will come to part ways as Milan look to refresh their struggling defensive department.

Kjaer’s agent Mikkel Beck has now confirmed in an interview with Bold that Kjaer’s Milan adventure will end once the current campaign draws to a close. There is no drama, and the parties part in good mutual understanding.

“It is a natural farewell to a club where Simon has loved playing for more than four years – at a time that feels right,” he said.

“Many years ago, Simon told me that one day he wanted to play for AC Milan, and that dream came true in the most beautiful way. And in fact, Milan became the club where Simon has played the most matches.

“For Simon, it is a perfect situation. He will play the European Championship this summer as Denmark’s captain, and then he will go on a free transfer.

“Actually, his position is that he would like to decide after the Euros and be able to choose freely where the adventure should continue for him and his family.

“So I don’t expect any quick clarification for Simon, just like Oliver Giroud, whose contract also expires – and where he has chosen to continue in the USA.”

Beck also went on to speak about the impact that Kjaer has had with the Rossoneri given the state that the club were in when he arrived.

“When Simon arrived at AC Milan, the club were below the middle of Serie A. His dream and ambition was that, with all his qualities as a player and manager, he could help bring the club back to where it belongs: to the pinnacle of Italian football.

“He has managed to win a league title and to stabilise with top positions every year since his arrival. And to the top of Europe, where Milan reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

“I can confirm that there was interest from other big clubs this winter – as there always is for a player with Simon’s qualities and international reputation, but Simon was only interested in playing out the season with AC Milan.

“He has played him many good matches since Christmas, when he came back from an injury – and he showed his class as a player and manager in those months with many great performances in the club’s best period this season.”

In the past, it has been reported that clubs such as Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahce showed interest in Kjær during the winter break.

“Right now Simon is injured, but he will probably be ready to be able to help his club finish the season well and be ready for the Euros,” Beck added.

Kjær is currently out with another muscle problem having played his last match for Milan on 14 April. Before the injury, he had a strong period from mid-December until after the international match against Switzerland.

The message from Beck means that the former Wolfsburg man expects to be ready for the end of the Serie A season and then for 16 June, which is Denmark’s first match against Slovenia in Stuttgart.

  1. One my favorite CBs since his Palermo days. Nothing bad to say about him. Has been a warrior since day 1 he arrived at Milan. Grazie and forza Simon!

    1. Strange enough, I used to always purchase him in my Championship Manager game when he was still at Palermo and was rated highly.

I didn’t follow his RL career afterwards though and was surprised when he joined us, because I seriously thought he would’ve already retired by then lol. Didn’t even realize that he was younger than I thought he was.

  2. So it’s farewell for now at least, I know he will one day return to the club in some managerial role. One of my favorite and most respected players to ever play for Milan, loved his leadership qualities. I would have hoped if he stayed fit. I hope the club will give him and Giroud a good send off.
