Agent believes Pobega’s season ‘must be divided’ as hard work to earn spot continues

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega has spoken about the current difficulties that his client is going through, insisting he is working hard to get back into the plans.

Pobega is in his first season with the first team with Milan after having progressed through the youth sector and after loan spells at Ternana, Pordenone, Spezia and most recently Torino. It is a dream come true for the boyhood Milanista, who is now battling to try and become a regular starter but so far he has not succeeded.

In the first half of the campaign he found opportunities a bit easier to come by and chipped in with an important goal against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, yet since the turn of the year he has had less and less chance to impress with Rade Krunic and even Tiemoue Bakayoko preferred in recent weeks.

Speaking on Radio CRC, Patrick Bastianelli – Pobega’s agent – was asked to evaluate how the season has gone so far for the midfielder, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I believe that his season must be divided: the first six months and then the last period. Until January he is always ready. In the last period he has played a little less, his goal is to carve out his space and be ready,” he said.

“He made the right and formative path starting from Lega Pro to Ternana, then played for Spezia and Turin. He’s on the right track, he wants to find continuity of performance and to do that he’ll need to find his own space and I’m sure he will.”

  1. He is too unpolished. You can’t get a yellow card after five minutes every game you play and create free kicks for the opposite team as soon as you try to get the ball. It just doesn’t work in a team like milan. In Torino sure. They brute force their way to get points. That’s not the way for Milan. He needs to improve or get sold.

  2. With Theo we can see his potential is one of the best in the world, so too Maignan. Tonali has the potential to be a cross between Gattuso and Pirlo/Ambro and a solid one at that or even more. Pobega on the other hand his max potential is Krunic level (not that Krunic is terrible, just solid). We can all see that. Best to stop overhyping the kid and let the reality set in that he’s not good enough as a starter for Milan.

    1. Not every can or need to be a starter. What we’re lacking is substitutes that make a difference. Remove anyone from the starting eleven and the quality drops significantly.

      1. Yes not everyone is a starter but I don’t think he’s a sub that makes a difference (maybe as of yet). Krunic to me can make a difference and maybe messias/salad depending on who is the sub. Other than those, none really from an offense pov. What I would like to see like in other big teams they sometimes throw in their youth players who are hungry and try to prove a point. They tend to take the bull by the horns

        1. Well… Maybe Pobega should be tried in a more offensive role. He has scored as many goals this season as Origi & CDK combined with a fraction of their playing times. He’s not a DM yet Pioli insists playing him there.

Krunic makes a difference when we need to secure 3 points. But when trailing one or two goals it’s absolutely insane to bring in Krunic on the pitch.

Yes. Unfortunately Pioli seems to disagree. He should be using more players who are eager to prove themselves and EARN more playing time. Yet Pioli opts to use Origi, CDK & co. every time. How does that motivate the younger lads?
