Agent explains ‘sad’ situation surrounding Bakayoko and why Milan return ‘didn’t work’

By Oliver Fisher -

Tiemoue Bakayoko’s return to AC Milan has not worked out so far, and his agent has now spoken out about the ‘sad’ situation his client finds himself in.

After spending the 2018-19 season at Milan under Gennaro Gattuso on loan, there was talk of Bakayoko even becoming a permanent Rossoneri player. However, the club chose not to use the buy-out option of over €35m, and spells with Monaco and Napoli followed.

Bakayoko did eventually come back to Milan on a two-year loan in summer 2021 but he made just 18 appearances in all competitions for a total of 607 minutes last season, and this season he is yet to make a competitive appearance, showing that he is not part of Pioli’s plans.

Marco Busiello is an agent, intermediary, executive director of First1 and he has collaborator for years with Niagara Sports, with whom he concluded various operations such as Bakayoko rejoining Milan. He spoke to TMW about the Frenchman’s situation.

“It’s a situation that makes me sad because a year and a half ago this transfer was strongly desired. In recent years he has always left on loan, every year he had to change, settle in a new environment, bring the family to a new city,” he said.

“Returning to Milan with a two-year loan with an option to buy that became an obligation under certain conditions, it made him happy. It seemed he had reached the end of this situation [the constant changing of clubs].

“But either due to the breakout of some players, or due to the injury, or due to situations that got a little screwed up, his second adventure at Milan didn’t work. The current status quo doesn’t do anyone any good, I’m very sorry.

“What future for him? We will see, we will calmly evaluate with Milan what the opportunities are. He has another year of contract with Chelsea after the current one. We will look around together.”

  1. I’m glad to see no other comments here. No one saying ‘kick him out’ etc. We gave him a contract, let’s honour it and learn for next time. We are not Barcelona!

    1. Bakayoko could leave if he wanted to (play). It’s not like Milan is forcing him to stay. But yeah, better just to forget about him. Like Pioli has done.
