Albertini suggests two January signings for Milan and discusses ‘fundamental’ returns

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini believes that the return of several players from injury will help Stefano Pioli, while he also gave his thoughts on some January transfer targets.

Albertini was interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) as part of a feature marking 30 days until the Serie A season gets back underway for what will be the second part of the campaign, and there is an eight point gap to Napoli that must be closed.

Milan will get some important leaders back such as goalkeeper Mike Maignan, captain Davide Calabria, winger Alexis Saelemaekers and above all Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which Albertini believes will be a big boost.

“A plus that will add value, a small change for the recovery. Maignan’s recovery is fundamental. Ibra? Let’s give him time to rebuild confidence with a goal. Then you know, even one good ball is enough for someone like him,” he said.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have to fill some gaps in the squad, such as the second goalkeeper question, where the Rossoneri are moving well in advance to close the signing of Marco Sportiello on a free. However, Albertini threw two names in the ring.

“With players like Ziyech and Aouar, you try to anticipate the moves of the summer, it’s an intelligent strategy. And if whoever arrives will insert himself quickly…” he said.

Milan face a difficult task in overhauling the gap to Napoli but also face Spurs in the Champions League round of 16.

“I’d like to see them play more consistently during the same match: a Milan always in games has what it takes to win the Scudetto,” he said.
