Biggest home defeat since 2023: All the key stats from AC Milan vs. Udinese

AC Milan failed to bounce back from the Napoli defeat on Easter Monday, instead digging an even deeper hole by losing to Udinese at home.

A lot has already been said by the game, by us and the Italian media, but it’s truly one that could make life very difficult for Milan. Not only will they head into the Verona clash with a lot of pressure to turn things around, but the rivals will also be breathing down their neck.

Anything other than a win in that game would give Juventus a perfect opportunity for the head-to-head fixture in two weeks. Therefore, Massimiliano Allegri and his men will have to learn from the mistakes last night, because there were many of them.

Lack of composure

If you look at the overall data from the game, it’s clear that Milan should have done a whole lot more with their 63% possession. Furthermore, they definitely should have converted at least one of their several good chances, hence the higher xG than Udinese.

The shots on target metric really highlights that, as the away side made the most of the space in and around Milan’s penalty box. Indeed, they actually could have scored more than three.

Stats Milan-Udinese 2025-26

Firsts in a while

Unfortunately, there were a few firsts in quite some time for Milan on Saturday evening. Starting with the less serious one, it was the first time that the Rossoneri had conceded at least goals without scoring in a first half at home since October 2024 (0-2 against Napoli).

It was also their biggest defeat at San Siro, as the designated home side, since the 2-5 defeat against Sassuolo in the 2022-23 season (January 2023, to be specific). It just goes to show how bad the nature of this defeat was.

Strikers struggle continue

For the third time in the last four games, Milan failed to find the back of the net. The strikers are really struggling and the formation change didn’t help much, although you could argue that Allegri should have given Santiago Gimenez a chance in this one.

Nevertheless, regardless of who is playing, the form of the strikers is a massive problem and could very well be what confirms the collapse in this season finale. The fact that Donyall Malen (Roma) has more goals in 2026 than all of Milan’s strikers (at 10) says everything you need to know.

Perhaps it will be the Mexican’s chance against Verona, or at least that’s what you would expect since his physical condition will surely be better by then.

  1. Udinese with xG of 1.24 score 3 goals. Milan has games where xG was almost 3 and 0 goals were scored. It has to be Allegri, not players…

  2. “Strikers struggle continue”

Well, only one striker was on the pitch and he played for only 45 minutes. Maybe… Just maybe, that’s the problem. Playing without strikers.
