Six-game streak and Giroud poised: All the key stats ahead of Sassuolo vs. Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will return to the Mapei Stadium to face Sassuolo this evening hoping for a repeat of the final game of last season in which they won 3-0 to seal the Scudetto.

The Rossoneri come into the game off the back of a routine against Bologna as Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud got on the scoresheet. The Rossoblu had zero shots on target and the Rossoneri are now full of confidence, but Sassuolo are a tricky side to face.

You can read our match preview here, while below are the best pre-game stats…

➤ Milan have won their last six Serie A away games against Sassuolo, winning their 19th Serie A title in this fixture last season. The Rossoneri have never won seven consecutive top-flight away games against an opponent before.

➤ Sassuolo and Milan will face each other for the fourth time in a midweek Serie A game: Sassuolo have won twice (both 2-1 at San Siro in January 2015 and April 2021), but lost the only game at Mapei Stadium (1-2 in July 2020).

➤ Sassuolo won against Milan in the first half of last season’s Serie A, after six consecutive seasons without a win against them in the first part of the competition — only Eusebio Di Francesco won two times in a row (2013/14 and 2014/15)

➤ Having drawn their last Serie A match (2-2 vs. Spezia), Sassuolo could draw two league games in a row for the first time since December 2021 (against Napoli and Spezia back then).

➤ Milan are unbeaten in their last 19 Serie A matches (W13 D6) – in the three points for a win era, only twice have they had a longer unbeaten run: 20 between March and November 1999 and 27 between June 2020 and January 2021.

➤ Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi has scored 10 goals against AC Milan, his best victim in Serie A: he has scored twice in his last four appearances against them, after remaining scoreless in previous seven.

➤ Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi and Milan’s Rafael Leao (eight goals and eight assists each) are two of the three players to have been involved in the most Serie A goals in 2022 (16, level with Ciro Immobile).

➤ Milan’s Olivier Giroud scored a brace against Sassuolo in Serie A in the last MD of last season; against no other side has he had more goals in the competition so far.
