Champions League distraction: All the key stats ahead of Milan vs. Lazio

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Lazio at 15:00 CEST today and the Rossoneri need to get back to winning ways after two consecutive draws. It won’t be an easy game, though, even if some of the stats are in their favour.

Stefano Pioli make seven changes to the starting XI mid-week and it resulted in a 1-1 draw against Cremonese. For this one, therefore, he will field the best players in an attempt to keep the Champions League hopes alive.

You can read our pre-match preview here, while below are the best stats ahead of the game…

➤ Milan have drawn more games against Lazio in Serie A than against any other side (59/159 matches, along with 69 Rossoneri and 31 Biancocelesti wins) – however the last draw between these teams came on 25th November 2018 (1-1).

➤ After the win against Milan in the first meeting this season, Lazio could win both of their matches against Milan in a single season for the second time in Serie A (also 1977/78).

➤ Milan have won four of their last five matches against Lazio in the second part of the season in Serie A (L1), as many as in their previous 16 (D10 L2).

➤ Only Napoli (24 in 11 matches) have gained more points than Lazio (21 in 11 matches) and Milan (15 in 10 matches) against teams which are currently in the top seven in Serie A.

➤ Milan have drawn four of their last five Serie A matches (W1) and have won only one of their four previous matches directly before a Champions League knockout game this season (D2 L1), 1-0 against Torino in February.

➤ Lazio have picked up the most points in the last 11 games in Serie A this season: 25 (W8 D1 L2).

➤ Lazio have kept the most away clean sheets in the big five European Leagues this season (11 in 16 away games).

➤ Lazio are the only team against which Ante Rebic has both scored more than one goal and provided more than one assist in the big five European Leagues (2+2).

➤ Ciro Immobile has been involved in nine goals in his last eight Serie A matches against Milan (seven goals and two assists). However, the striker has won fewer games against Milan than against any other side in the top-flight: 3 in 15 matches (min. 10 games).

➤ Luis Alberto has scored three goals against Milan in Serie A; only against Fiorentina (four) has he scored more goals in Serie A. After his goal in the first meeting this season against the Rossoneri, the midfielder could score in both of his games in a season against a single opponent for the first time in the top-flight.
