One win in seven home games: All the key stats ahead of Atalanta vs. Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face the short hop to Bergamo this evening as they will take on Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium looking to make it three wins in a row.

Milan’s victory against Frosinone last weekend followed one against Fiorentina, keeping them in touch with Inter and Juventus at the top of the table, but this will be a big litmus test against a side who are also battling a defensive injury crisis.

You can read our pre-match preview here, while below are the best stats ahead of the game…

➤ Milan are unbeaten in their last five games against Atalanta in Serie A (W4 D1), while they haven’t gone six games in a row without losing against them since between 2008-2012 (6).

➤ Atalanta have drawn 44 of their 124 games against Milan in Serie A, their joint-most against any opponent (also 44 against Juventus), although only one of the last six such meetings has ended in a draw (1-1 in August 2022), with four wins for the Rossoneri and one for the Nerazzurri in this time.

➤ Atalanta have won one of their seven home games against Milan in Serie A under Gian Piero Gasperini (D3 L3), winning 5-0 in December 2019. That game is their only clean sheet against them in their last 15 home meetings in the top-flight.

➤ Milan have won as many as nine of their first 14 games in a Serie A campaign in four seasons in a row for the second time in their history, after doing so between 2002/03-2005/06 under Carlo Ancelotti.

➤ Atalanta have lost 14 Serie A games in 2023 (W17 D6), while they have not lost more in a single calendar year since 2015 (15). After defeats against Napoli and Torino, the Nerazzurri could lose three games in a row in the top-flight for the first time since November 2022.

➤ Milan are unbeaten in their last seven away games in Serie A (W5 D2). After drawing 2-2 against Napoli and Lecce, the Rossoneri could draw three away league games in a row for the first time since
December 2018 under Gennaro Gattuso.

➤ Atalanta, alongside Genoa, are one of the two teams yet to score with a penalty or a direct free kick in Serie A this season.

➤ Atalanta’s Mario Pasalic has been directly involved in three goals in four games at Gewiss Stadium against Milan in Serie A (one assist and two goals). He played 24 games with the Rossoneri in Serie A in 2016-17, scoring five goals.

➤ Olivier Giroud has scored five goals in his first six away games in Serie A this season. Only one Milan player has scored more away goals in a season in the division after turning 36 years (Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 7 in 2019/20, 8 in 2020-21 and 7 in 2021-22).

➤ Milan’s Christian Pulisic has scored five goals and provided two assists in his first 12 games in Serie A, equalling his highest such tally at this stage of a season in the big-5 European Leagues (five goals and two assists after 12 games with Chelsea in the Premier League in 2019-20).
