Giroud, Brahim and Leao steal the show: All the key stats from Milan’s win against Sampdoria

AC Milan returned to winnings ways last night at San Siro as they beat an already-relegated Sampdoria side 5-1 to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Olivier Giroud’s hat-trick plus goals from Rafael Leao and Brahim Diaz fired the Rossoneri to an important three points, and the official website have published the main stats from the game.

➤ Rafael Leão has been involved in 21 goals (13 goals and eight assists) in Serie A this season, a personal record in a single Serie A campaign. Before him, the last player to have been involved in more than 20 goals in a single season was Zlatan Ibrahimović in the 2011/12 season (34).

➤ In 2023, only Kevin De Bruyne (seven) has provided more assists than Brahim Díaz (six) in Europe’s top-five leagues.

➤ Milan have scored the most goals in the first 30 minutes of play in Serie A this season (21). This evening was the first time since 29 August 2021 against Cagliari.

➤ Olivier Giroud (born in 1986) is the oldest player to have scored at least ten goals in Europe’s top-five leagues. He grabbed his first league hat-trick since 15 May 2016 (against Aston Villa in the Premier League).

➤ Sandro Tonali has equalled his record of assists (seven) in a single Serie A campaign (seven also in 2019/20 with Brescia.

➤ The Rossoneri have not scored at least five goals in a single game in Serie A since 12 May 2021 when they beat Torino 7-0 away from home. At home, the last time was on 18 July 2020 (5-1 win over Bologna).

➤ For the first time Brahim Díaz has provided two assists in a game in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues. He has provided seven assists in Serie A this season, one more than in his last two Serie A seasons.

➤ Stefano Pioli has won 100 games with Milan in all competitions, winning more than 700 points in Serie A in his career (702).
