CM: Allegri and Paratici resolve ‘misunderstandings’ over dinner amid strong Milan links

AC Milan are looking for a new sporting director and most likely a new head coach too, with an ex-Juventus duo having ended up on their list.

Calciomercato.com confirms that Sergio Conceiçao’s adventure has now reached its final stages. In all likelihood, the Portuguese coach will not keep his job for the 2025-26 season, even if he could yet win two trophies inside six months and obtain a European spot.

There are three names that currently stand out on the list of director candidates: Tony D’Amico, Igli Tare and Fabio Paratici. Any one of the trio could be entrusted with leading Milan into a new era, which obviously includes the choice of manager.

A few weeks ago there was a dinner between Paratici and Massimiliano Allegri, one of the names linked. The resolution of some past misunderstandings was achieved and there is a good harmony between the two.

It is possible if not probable that Milan were among the topics they discussed. In the past few weeks Paratici has already had a couple of meetings with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gerry Cardinale about the possibility of joining the Rossoneri.

He has not yet met with CEO Giorgio Furlani but the ex-Spurs director has made it clear that he is open to joining Milan. Paratici used to working under pressure at a top club, having worked at Juve in a very successful era and alongside Beppe Marotta before he left for Inter.

Allegri meanwhile has already had a stint at Milan, winning the league title in 2010-11 having arrived from Cagliari amid scepticism. Following another title challenge in 2011-12 and the gradual weakening of the squad, he was sacked in 2013-14 before going on to win 12 trophies at Juve.

As we wrote about in a recent feature, there seems to have been a campaign in the Italian media to talk up the idea of Milan going for the Paratici-Allegri duo, as part of some kind of overall ‘Italianisation’ of the club.

  1. I don’t care about aesthetics when it comes to football. I care about trophies and winning even if it is boring and ugly.

Allegri has the upper hand against Inter, Atalanta and all the top teams in Serie A when it comes to head to head games and his team has a strong defense.

Defense wins titles. Give him a QUALITY squad with QUALITY players and he will win. He doesn’t need top players but quality players.

Maybe we can get Koopmieners from Juventus who is not being used correctly under Motta. But we need players with character and leadership.

Not young inexperienced players who we are waiting to develop.

    1. I agree with you on the type of players we need but Allegri is a toxic girlfriend Milan had years ago. It was a nice relationship at the start but it was bitter toward the end and we were both a little hurt from it. Going back usually doesn’t work in normal life and the same applies to the footballing world. Plus, Allegri’s tactics have been outdated for almost 5 years now. There are many other talented Italian coaches that could handle the type of players you’ve described. What we don’t need is allegri coming in and destroying Tiji or Puli so he can bring in some defensive midfielder or something (similar to what he did to Pirlo). When we won the scudetto with him, we had Dinho, Pirlo, Zlatan, Cassano, Robinho, Pato, and Prince in attack. We have less than half that in pure attacking talent right now and we cannot afford to bring in 3-5 high level attackers which is what Allegri needs for his system to work, since he typically has the entire rest of the team defend. I’d take Italiano or De Zerbi or even give conceicao a full season before resorting to that screaming, tie throwing, nutso. Maldini was fired for far less than what Allegri did publicly the last time he coached Juve.

      1. Not that Pirlo is an attacking midfielder but we all know what he contributed. And we do need a DM but not if it means curtailing Tiji or Puli for some system that ties their hands or worse.

    2. Allegri can’t win anything more. A coach read and that’s it. If Ranieri stays at Roma, he won’t even be able to be 10. He showed that in his earlier performances. Same with Conte, he never stayed for more than two seasons. All of these have been read by Italian coaches who are easily beaten by average clubs in Europe. Milan is not a province, but another in Europe. Milan needs a coach who will create play, not defend, charge and run. Paratici will not be Milan’s DS and Allegri will not be Milan’s coach.

    3. Im sorry but Koopmeiners is overrated. I dont see what all the fuss is about. Didnt live up to his price tag so far. I was actually extremely surprised that Juve agreed to pay this much for him.

      1. Last season with Atalanta Koopmieners had the best stats in serie a for interceptions, progressive passes, goals and assist with 15 goals and 7 assists. Motta is not using him right and he’s Dutch. So with him and Fofana in the double pivot and Reinjders playing in an advanced midfield position it would be a match made in heaven at Milan.

  2. Tony D amico bring many good young Player for Atalanta, him or tare are good choice while paratici bring so many failure player for juve & Spurs. If ACM hiring Tony maybe he can convince gasperini to join ACM as head coach, this squad have huge potential for 352 like Theo LWB, Jimenez or saladmaker RWB , Santi or Camarda CF, Pulisic or Tammy SS while Tijii, Fofana, Ricci ( if ACM buy him in summer) for trio midfield and pavlo, gabbia, tomori as trio CB. Only leao & chukwu cannot get in gasperini system

      1. I see you bashing D’Amico every chance you get so I was wondering, can you please elaborate on this? Cause I don’t see any structured explanation just plain “he’s useless”, so you must have an expertise on him.

    1. Actually Gasperini is much more demanding than Conceicao so it would end up with constant drama and clashes with the management clowns.

  3. They decided to come for one last hoorah! they are coming for their share of American funds, hehe! No permanent friends only permanent interests.
