The future of Alexis Saelemaekers is currently a question mark, but Massimiliano Allegri intends to evaluate him in preseason.
After the season he had on loan at Roma, it seemed certain that the Giallorossi would buy him back, and they have never hidden their intention to keep him in recent months, but the club from the capital did not reach an agreement with Milan and so the negotiations came to a standstill.
Allegri to take a look at Saelemaekers
According to MilanNews, there were expressions of interest from some foreign clubs for the Belgian, but in the meantime Allegri stopped his exit.
The new Milan coach, who greatly appreciates Saelemaekers’ all-round qualities that make him usable in different areas of the pitch, has stepped in and informed the Milan management that he wants to evaluate the Belgian player during the summer preseason.

Allegri wants to understand if the former Anderlecht man – coming off two excellent seasons on loan at Bologna and Roma – can be useful to the Rossoneri. Thanks to his versatility, he can play on both wings, as a wing-back and as a full-back.
Obviously Saelemakers’ will and intentions will be decisive. The Belgian has always been very close to the Rossoneri and if he feels the trust of the new coach he will certainly have no problem staying and playing for a starting spot.
If instead he were to understand that he cannot have a leading role then he will push for an exit. Also because next season is the one that leads to the 2026 World Cup and therefore Alexis cannot afford not to play consistently, otherwise he risks losing his place in the Belgian national team.
We have to consider the fact that from all of our players loaned out to other clubs, himself and Adli are pretty much the only ones who has shown growth. It would be unwise to not at least give them a chance
Adli? He has proven that he cannot be a starter even at Fiorentina. He played about the same minutes as Jovic. Fiorentina won’t even activate the clause and buy him…
In a way, your comment proves my point my friend :). For someone that wasn’t a starter in La Viola he had OK numbers (5G 7A).
But more importantly, you didn’t said what about this guy or that guy…
This tells me that the incompetent management didn’t make enough effort to find a team that would be a good fit for the loaned out players. We got next to nothing in terms of developing players.
Peace out
He had ok numbers but not even at Fiorentina the coach can trust him to start and play 90 minutes. For me he is an unreliable player, good for Fifa and other games.
Ok numbers? I think it’s better than ok with all due respect. Yes he didn’t start many times but his offensive efficiency was higher than any other midfielder for the Viola. His per game G+A is the highest amongst their mids. And he only lags behind Gosens and Mandragora in goal contributions but not by much despite playing a little over half their total game time used. I’d say that’s a good back up numbers of we ever needed one. However I think the reason why he “flourished” is due to having an actual DM next to him to cover his defensive liabilities. We’re still looking for one
Don’t mind him. He doesn’t know ball.
Adli has what milan lacked (initiative to drive the ball/team forward) in many games this season. Someone to switch up the tempo/play, place a dangerous pass into the attacking third or simply control the game better and stretch opponents with intelligent passing.
The only bright spot in midfield was Reijnders (poor defensive phase) dribbling forward. Besides that was cluelessness and backward passing….
Milan needs a Vidal/Niangollan type of midfielder alongside 1 or 2 other pieces and Allegri would cook.
Saelemaekers could be back up for right wing to Change Pulisic or left to come in for Leao.
If Milan play with 3 on the back – he can be useful as well…
Chukwuezes very bad performance can keep Saelemaekers in Milan, and force Milan to either sell on send on loan Chukwueze. Player who didn’t show anything in 2 years.
For that money Milan can buy strong midfielder or young right winger who would fight for spot.
Saelemaekers, Adli, Pobega, Colombo did good job on loan and now can give Milan options from bench or permanent sale which made Milan good capital gain which is necessary for fiscal year 2025 2026.
Colombo with 6 goals in 37 matches?
I will rather replace with Lucca with 12 goals in 33 matches.
And they are about the same age.
It is easy to judge young strikers just like
“6 goals in X matches”.
If you loan out a young striker or any attacker to a team that sits back with little or no attacking actions for 90 minutes every week, the player won’t develop and this is how milan and other big Italian clubs kill italian talent(see the national team).
We had Daniel Maldini, he wasn’t loaned out to Atalanta or some other serious team in Germany or English championship.
If carmada plays for ateam like that he wouldn’t develop. E.g Madrid loaned Brahim to us and Nico Paz to Como.
This is another area where ibrahimovic failed, if young players are not allowed to play & grow consistently in first team or milan futuro then the should be loaned out to where they play & grow.
