Ambrosini admits doubt forming about Milan’s Scudetto chances: “Competing and winning”

After AC Milan failed to beat Juventus at the weekend, Massimo Ambrosini has commented on the Rossoneri’s season, and whether the Scudetto is still in reach.

When Stefano Pioli left Milan in the summer, many had hoped that the club would move forward. However, the appointment of Paulo Fonseca left many confused, with several seeing the decision as a step sideways, rather than a move forward.

Now, those worries are becoming a reality, as the Rossoneri sit seventh, ten points adrift from the top spot of the Serie A table. To make matters worse, the gap to the Champions League stands at nine points, so there is a growing possibility that European football will slip away from the Diavolo’s grasp.

For many, the dream of the Scudetto returning to the red and black side of Milan is fading, and this belief is held by Ambrosini as well. For this reason, his words to Radio Serie A (via Milan News) were not entirely positive.

“I’m starting to have some doubts about Milan’s Scudetto bid… Atalanta on the other hand are Scudetto contenders? Yes. But clearly, should they win it would be a surprise because at the start of the season, I was very doubtful.

“In two Sundays there is Atalanta-Milan, it will be a good test: should they continue like this Dea would be a surprise. There is not the same difference between competing and winning as there is between finishing seventh or third. Between finishing seventh or third there is a step, between second and first there is much more.”
