Ambrosini on Tonali’s start at Milan: “Very important for him to get some minutes”

By Isak Möller -

Sandro Tonali joined Milan this summer on a paid loan with an option to buy, fulfilling his dream of playing for the Rossoneri. As expected, he has been slowly implemented into the team by manager Stefani Pioli.

As Milan took on Celtic away from home on Thursday evening, Tonali was given the chance from start, playing alongside Franck Kessie in the midfield. Overall, he put in a good performance but he looked shaky on a few occasions.

It must be remembered that the midfielder is just 20-years-old, meaning he will need time to fully adapt. In an interview with Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews.it, Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini shared his thoughts on Tonali’s start.

“He didn’t start well. It was very important for him to get some minutes in his legs. He got the first two, three interventions wrong but he found greater confidence in the second half. There is a difference between him and Bennacer but it is normal because the player has been out for a long time,” he said.

The situation is perfect as Pioli doesn’t have to put any pressure on Tonali, although the latter surely wants to do well. Until he’s ready, though, Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie will continue to dominate the midfield.
