Baresi praises all departments of an ‘excellent’ Milan: “We have recreated great enthusiasm”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s honorary vice president Franco Baresi believes that the team have what it takes to not only go toe-to-toe with Spurs in the Champions League last 16 but also to get through into the quarter-finals.

The rules regarding not being able to draw a group winner from the same country (Napoli) or the winner of your own group (Chelsea) meant that Milan were able to face Manchester City, Spurs, Benfica, Porto, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

In the end, the ball drawn out secured a repeat of the 2010-11 tie in the Champions League last 16 as the Rossoneri will meet the team from north London again, hoping for a different outcome compared to the 1-0 aggregate defeat 11 years ago.

Speaking to the microphones of Sky, Baresi spoke about the current state Milan are in and about their ambitions in Europe given the draw that took place in Nyon yesterday, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“Milan have already risen to the level. We are having excellent performances, many players have grown. Milan play football that they like, all the players are involved. We have a very strong midfield and in defence there are players who are not afraid and this is important,” he said.

“Going forward then we create a lot. The coach is good at proposing proactive football that involves the whole team. We have recreated great enthusiasm, San Siro will be of great help also against Tottenham.”
