Davide Bartesaghi has caught the attention of Italy manager and Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso, who’s in the process of deciding the Azzurri squad for the play-offs in March.

Bartesaghi’s breakthrough has certainly been commendable this season, taking the starting spot from Pervis Estupinan and impressing a lot with his performances. The brace against Sassuolo was the big exclamation mark, but yesterday, he also did well as a centre-back in Cagliari-Milan.

It’s a good thing that he did, as according to Nico Schira, Gattuso sent a scout to watch the game at Unipol Domus. More specifically, the Italy manager wanted more information on Bartesaghi, Marco Palestra, and Elia Caprile.

Bartesaghi and Palestra are the same age (20) and play on opposite sides of the defence, while Caprile is 24 years old. The Cagliari goalkeeper couldn’t do much about Leao’s goal, but the right-back impressed in his duels with the aforementioned Estupinan.

In the World Cup play-offs, Italy will be up against Northern Ireland at home and then Bosnia or Wales away from home. These games are scheduled for March 26 and March 31, so it’s only right that Gattuso has started to think about the squad.

Bartesaghi has previously admitted that his next goal is to make the national team, being the big dream for him after debuting for Milan.

  1. With his 190cm, he can be the next Milan left CB who can distribute long ball for the team. Something that rare in Italian national team…

      1. Long way to go, He is still a teenager. But i’d say he has done amazing. He basically took the starting from from Estupinian (The guy with PL experience, who also plays for a very very solid ecuadorian NT) Plus, and i know it’s just one game, but he did better or at least on par to what De winter has shown in the back 3. Not too shabby for a 19yr old kid.
