Bennacer bemoans Milan’s ‘many mistakes’ against Porto but insists he was fouled for the goal

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer has admitted that he and his AC Milan team-mates have made too many mistakes in the Champions League so far, but insisted he was fouled for Porto’s winner.

Milan were once again on the wrong end of another dubious refereeing decision, and one that this time led directly to a goal in the 1-0 defeat to Porto. As the incident shows, Bennacer goes down under pressure from Taremi who appears to back into the Algerian midfielder on the edge of the box, but no foul was whistled.

As play continued, Luis Diaz ended up putting the ball into the bottom corner with a precise strike that won Porto all three points in the end. Bennacer, spoke to Sky Italia after the game to give his thoughts on the loss, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“We didn’t play our best match, now we have to think about the next one and learn from this match. When we play with our spirit you can see immediately, against Porto was tough from all points of view. We made too many mistakes. We’re not in the Champions League just to play, we need to do better in the next three games,” he said.

He also spoke to Mediaset’s microphones on the challenge from Taremi before the goal.

“I went towards the ball and I did not see the player. I felt a blow in the head and also the push,” he said (via MilanNews).
