Bentancur injured and Højbjerg suspended – Spurs’ midfield crisis against Milan

By Isak Möller -

Tottenham not only suffered a 4-1 defeat against Leicester last night, but were also dealt another blow as Rodrigo Bentancur was forced to leave the pitch with an injury. He could miss the game against Milan, therefore.

Milan will face Spurs in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday evening. The Rossoneri have been really poor lately but managed to bounce back with a win against Torino, thus getting a much needed confidence-boost.

Tottenham, on the other hand, did the complete opposite as they lost 4-1 against Leicester. In addition, Bentancur left the pitch in tears as he suffered a blow to his knee, which means he will most likely miss the Milan game.

According to the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, the injury did indeed look serious and his presence against Milan is unlikely. Furthermore, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is suspended for the first game and Tottenham could thus have a midfield of Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr.

Of course, Milan have their fair share of injury struggles as well with key players such as Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori and Ismael Bennacer currently out. The latter two could recover in time for the game, though.

  1. Let’s be honest, milan would lose to a team of school girls right now.

A full strength Tottenham would win 4-0 or more. So perhaps it will be a less embarrassing loss for milan.

Given how we were annihilated by an ordinary Chelsea team when we were on good form in the league
