Berlusconi looks back on time at Milan and reveals his favourite player

By Oliver Fisher -

Silvio Berlusconi has recalled how he made AC Milan the strongest team in the world and also gave his opinion on the greatest player he had during his time.

Berlusconi bought the club back in 1986 and more or less saved it from bankruptcy. It was the start of a very successful era for Milan, who won eight Scudetti and five Champions Leagues (among many other honours) during Berlusconi’s reign.

Now, he is in charge of Monza along with Adriano Galliani who was CEO and his right-hand man during his time with the Rossoneri, and that means he will welcome Milan as an opponent in tomorrow night’s game.

Berlusconi was interview by Sky (via PianetaMilan) ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Rossoneri, and he reflected on the time that he had with Milan.

“Throughout my life I have had dreams that seemed impossible to everyone. When I took on Milan, I wanted Milan to become the strongest team in the world and there are I succeeded. I won everything. I have a strong memory of 1994,” he said.

“I was in Rome to ask for confidence in the Government and therefore I was unable to see the final in Athens. I called Galliani at the end of the game and he told me that we had won 4- 0. However, putting together all that we have won, I still feel a little pride inside.”

Furthermore, Berlusconi also spoke of some players who wore the Milan shirt, many of whom he remains attached to.

“I love Maldini very much, he is the son and father of Milan players. I love many from my Milan. Gullit, to Van Basten. The greatest? Baresi, a fantastic player, a man of incredible honesty, loved and respected by everyone, even by his opponents.”
