In an interview ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Monza, Paolo Berlusconi confirmed that Daniel Maldini left the Rossoneri for a ‘minor fee’ in the summer.
After the success with Monza in the 2023-24 season, joining them halfway through, Maldini attracted the interest of a few clubs in the summer but ended up staying at Monza. For the latter, it was a rather beneficial deal even if a 50% resale clause was included.
In his interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Silvio Berlusconi’s brother Paolo was asked about keeping the Maldini name alive. He made it clear Milan’s willingness in the negotiations was ‘an act of generosity’, seeing as Monza only had to pay a small fee.
Berlusconi, Galliani: Maldini’s name almost comes naturally…
“It is very beautiful that we started with Milan and arrived at Monza, thanks also to the savoir-faire of Paolo Scaroni and Milan, who released Daniel Maldini for a minor fee. An act of generosity beautiful to see.”
Of course, the 50% resale clause means Milan can buy back Maldini for a much lower fee than their rivals. And if they don’t want to, they stand to make a decent chunk anyway. Of course, it should not become a habit for the management to sell solely with future resale clauses.
Two obvious predictions:
– Monza are going to get 2-3 dangerous chances in the opening minutes of the match
– Maldini is going to score
Maldini is still injured so he might not start. He has some shoulder problems.
Oh, didn’t know that, thanks mate
Think it’s gonna be the other way around. We’re gonna score early
I hope so mate. It’s been a while since we controlled a match
I fully expect Maldini to score …
… the winning goal.
