Biglia: “We must return to the Champions League; this is how we will win the derby”

By Oliver Fisher -

Lucas Biglia has given his thoughts to Milan TV ahead of Saturday’s Derby della Madonnina against Inter at San Siro.

Milan will face their Nerazzurri neighbours at San Siro this weekend for the latest instalment of the historic rivalry.

The Rossoneri have started the season with two wins from their opening three games but face an Inter side which – under new boss Antonio Conte – have won all three games.

Biglia is the subject of a battle for a starting spot currently, with, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via @teammilanac on Twitter) recently reporting that Bennacer will start over him on Saturday.

However, according to Calciomercato.com, Biglia is still favoured by head coach Marco Giampaolo to start the game against Inter due to his experience.

Now, the Argentine has spoken to the club’s official channel about his preparation and emotions ahead of the game.

“After a good preparation I had to stop 20 days for a small annoyance to avoid committing the same mistake as last October, so I recovered the first week, I was lucky enough to play Sunday against Verona, and little I will continue to find the form a little,” he said, as per MilanNews.it.

“Certainly, to find the best form you need to play, but in such a competitive team it is not easy. So you have to take advantage of every minute the coach gives me to find the best form as quickly as possible.

“The derby? Beyond it all is the game of the city. The 3 points are important. We will certainly improve a lot, but if you have the opportunity to win and continue to work like this, so much the better.

“This derby is watched all over the world, messages arrive from parts of the world that you do not expect and this makes you see the greatness of a club like Milan, which will always remain in the history of the clubs that won a lot.

“Last year we did not have the luck and we hope at the beginning of this year to be able to find a victory that will give us confidence to continue working.

“We were really very bitter after not having taken the chance to play in the Champions League this year and we hope this year to give satisfaction to the fans, because they have always given them to us, both at home and away and we hope to give them joy as early as Saturday.”

How do Milan plan on winning this derby?

“With desire above all. For us, defending this club, this word must be very important. Winning must be ahead of everything, because Milan must return to playing in the Champions League.

“Then it can happen to find stronger teams, because we are in a period of growth, but we must return to the Champions League, and to do so we must win with those who will fight on equal terms with us.”
